Yes the 70/71 Challengers/Cudas will always have a higher value than the 72 and up cars.....DOLLAR WISE...Simply because of the motor options.........Now most of us cannot go out and spend the bucks for a 71 Cuda.....which is prob. 80% of us....But are you the type of person even if you went into mega debt to own one would let it set all the time to collect dust..paranoid to drive it..Climate control trailer it...go to a car show and let someone pick out what aint supposed to be on the car...let some punk kid blow your doors of in 5.0 stang with nitrous and laugh in your face !....An old mopar magazine had one of the best quotes in it I ever heard....."Yes you may have bought the car but technically it's on loan to you because you will die someday! and someone else will own it!"  So enjoy life and smoke 'em at the lights...

With the boost prices of the muscle cars is really in due to all these rice burners coming out with big horsepower...just like it did in the 60's......

I was born in 1971 say no more.......but i didnt have the heart to bust up a 71 Challenger...and yet be paranoid all the time...So I bought a 72 Challenger(440) am currently doing a ground up documented video/dvd of it to prove it's worth...and doing it my way...which I believe will be the big trick in the future... and boost the value of any car....Because a car may look great on the outside but who knows on the inside.....? People will pay a lot more if they know......

painter......put a 5.9 supercharged motor out of a dodge ram and a custom dash..lowered it with rims and was sweet as hell....and dont overheat from here to arizona and runs low 12's with the a/c on..
Hell there's only 1- 71 Hemi cuda convertible left out of the 7 and sold for 1.3 million about 6 mths ago......Clones coming out of everywhere going for 100g's and Nash Bridges 70 wanna be 71 cuda went for 135K..

Clone Cars will always grow in value simply because as the years go on no one will prob even see matching number hemi/6 pack cars on the road....dont want a stone chip to mess up that 5 grand paint job! And the value will just be to high.....wonder what car insurance will be 15 years from now?
Will be nice to tell your insurance...Yea I have Cloned 71 Cuda......or thats what people will have to say just to get rates down.......lol

A 72 Challenger with a ground up resto (undocumented) and 440 just sold on eBay for $21,000........wow.....how;'s that for bucks for a 72....no 440's in 72 Challengers......Ebay # 2452101237

Clone Cars will go on a non stop rampage and grow in popularity....I dont know about you but when I go to Chryslers at Carlilse and see a row of cars that are all the same except the paint color that bores me!

Your point is well taken, but I can see the merits of both sides of the arguement. I have a 70 Challenger T/A clone that is not numbers matching. So, I basically customized the car with what I liked best about the 70 and 71 Challengers. I love it and I don't care what the purists think. Their side is that the only way to go is keep everything original and numbers matching. I have to admit, I admire those people that have 30+ year old cars with the same things it left the factory with. Now, as for who has more fun... I'll bet I put alot more miles on my car on one weekend outing than they do in a year.

He, He,   That's a great question Bart. For me personally, I'd take the clone. That way I wouldn't feel bad about making any modifications, or putting on a few miles. I'm saying this as someone who wants a muscle car to enjoy, not resell for a profit. I can see others feeling differently though.

The reason I ask, is when I was looking for my Cuda, finding nothing but junk, started at 15k, couldn't find the right car. At the time I really didn't car if it was NOM or matching numbers, then I found my 70Cuda with matching number FC7 for a few dollars more.

I do agree that you can have why more fun with a clone, as I'm not driving it a lot either due to the fact I don't want to hurt the car in anyway.

id take the #matching car and modify it, but.......
id also keep the matching numbers stuff just for the value. its what im doing with my 70 Barracuda.  
im going to make a 440/6 clone out of it but the original motor/tranny will always be close by

like others said...i would take the numbers matching then pull the engine and trans for safe keeping....then mod the they i like it...BUT ONLY BOLT IN STUFF..NO HOLE DRILLED, WELDING ect...then i could change it back if needed or wanted.


but i'll never have that kind of money to buy a #'s matching..or running car...unless the guy don't know what he has...dreaming..

so i got to get junk and fix it....

somtimes a #'s matching running car dont always have to be a lot of money. i got mine for $500.
but its also got a lot that needs being done to it too so i guess i kinda bought somone elses junk but i just got a good deal, i think

  Always the debatable subject, to clone or stay original? My thought and your thoughts are only what matters........to a point, there has to be a point where it becomes a stupid thing to do. Example: Jomoe finds a #'s matching rare model (you decide what it is) he then proceds to make a custom street rod, and low and behold of all damn things chops off the roof and, wala- he now has a convert.. Personally this guy is an embarrasement to the hobby, and I'll refrain from personally putting a name on him.

On the otherhand I agree with what some of you have already said, that is, if you want to "modify" that #'s matching car but at the same time keep the original parts, hell, go for it - IT IS YOU CAR AND YOUR MONEY !

I,m a very lucky guy. I love Mopars, I have a wife that loves Mopars, and we have a couple! I have one that is matching #'s and documented. I ( I should be saying we) have another that was #'s matching that we restored and made the way my wife wanted (WSM), but I kept the factory parts. The other one is a total clone, it started life as a plain jane Satallite with a 318, It is becoming a Roadrunner with a 440+6. I bought it with the body and paint work done, the car was a rusted shell buried in mud above the wheel well's and , well you get the picture.

Now I dare any rich money bags sob tell me I have an obligation to return the Satallite to it's factory specs, because I'll tell him where to stick his tire iron. But on the other hand someday WSM (the Chally) may be put back to her original self, but honestly it would be a step backward , but possible.

There is no end to the debate, there is logic and reasoning on both sides of the question, just use logic and reasoning to make that decision!

Just makes those that are left, just that much more valuable

Does anyone out there think a  360-4 , 904 Auto, non-Ralleye, White, no vinyl top, no Sure Grip, not much else, numbers matching, 1974 Challenger,   is worth a ground up restoration?  I'm gonna turn it into a SubLime, 440-6, Pistol Gripper.  BUT .... I am going to keep all the original parts so that if that one person who thinks it's worth a ground up restro ever shows up,  it's possible to put back.  

WSM,  you ever need any help installing that tire tool, I'll be glad to hold the sob for you.
