Don't ask me how I know but.....
« on: October 11, 2007 - 05:43:54 PM »

This may have been done here before but,I was thinking about some of the DUMB things I've done on cars and thought this might be fun!
Don't ask me how I know but:

Don't put your hand under the clutch pedal with the dash rod un hooked and the dash spring still on!
Don't forget to clean out the hole for the battery hold down and then drill it with the battery still in the car!
Any body else got one?

Don't try to empty your radiator by the lower rad. hose, with a still very hot engine... :bricks1:

Don't leave your car in a nice dry barn, top down, for the winther, - full of birds that got the same idea... :bricks1:

You only want one??

Don't remove gauges with battery connected. Don't lift head while looking under the hood if you are over 6' tall(dang hood latch thingie). Don't install solid front to rear brake line with battery connected(major smoke when it hits the "+" terminal and the body at the same time).

One more
If a you are helping someone clean old motors out of their barn and they use a tractor with a three point hitch, when the engine sways violently don't try to stop it...
It will snap both your pinkie fingers!!!
You really find out who your friends are then! Eating, bath room time and so on!

Don't look too closely to see why the spray carburetor cleaner isn't coming through that clogged orifice.

When you go to adjust the timing on a big block while running, (the car, not you) the coil does not like to come in contact with your body.  It makes cool colors though, and makes your hand go all crazy.  How?  Ohhhhhhh, I dont know.

Don't ask me how I know, but ...

Don't try to jump start your car at the starter solenoid with the car in gear! (and of course the neutral safety switch by-passed)  :faint:

Don't ask me how I know...

After wiping a part off with a rag that was soaked in laquer thinner or Acetone, don't flick a lighter with the rag near you or in your hand.

They tend to go up like spontaneous combustion....poof!

Back in the early 70's when I was just a beginner I just got finished installing my first cam and a new Edelbrock TM7 intake on my first 67 GTX.  When I was all done with the intake I turned around and  noticed a whole set of brand new lifters sitting on my work bench.. OHHH I hate when that happens !!!!
Then later on in the day I learned NOT to use the top of your battery as a tool tray--unless you want to weld 2 of your wenches together !!!
AHHH the good old days !

Don't ask me how I know but,

After installing a new starter and battery cables (with the front end on jack stands of coarse), don't go around and final check all of the nuts and bolts with the cables connnected. Luckly it wasn't in gear. :working:
