This seems like a good place to bring this up... I think I may have brought it up before but here goes again...

I really cant remember what the show was but I saw something on the SPEED channel there they tested the top engine from each company in the 60's and 70's...

The top Ford engine which was rated at something like 400hp back in the day rated on the show at 600hp
The 426 HEMI which was rated at 425 back then got rated at 800hp on the show...

I'm not 100% sure what their standards were but that sounds pretty good to me...

I saw that show, also, and do remember 100% that the Hemi result was over 800HP.  As legendary as the motor is, I find that really hard to believe,  but supposedly the motor was bone stock, with no overbore or anything trick.

He also claims that the strongest of the '60s muscle car engines put out "barely 200 hp" at the rear wheels."

He`s clainimg the STRONGEST engine,just look up a time slip of the fastest cars back then and figure it out -well above 200hp!   Obviuosly just some moron spouting off and really not knowing or researching any facts.   :blah:

Yeah, I agree. He is just too funny!
Now he claims that no Hemi car could go faster than 136 mph because a Car Life test listed that speed for a 1969 Charger 500 with 3.23 gears. But he ignores that fact that Car Life got a '68 Hemi GTX Convertible to 144 mph @ 5900 rpm!

Me, neither.
Actually, the fastest I've driven in any of my cars, past and present, was 95-100 mph. That was in my former '66 Dart GT V-8, my former '71 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham and my current '76 Cadillac Fleetwood Limo.

BTW, that guy on that board finally accepted the fact that it is believable that a '68 (or later) Hemi-powered Mopar could do 144 ("barely" to use his word).

Ha I'm a fan of old muscle... I'll take a classic over a pricey import any day... Who really wants to look like a rich snob in one of those?

P.S. I guess I could stand driving a Dodge Viper so long as I already have myself a nice bit of muscle  :2thumbs:
