summer of 1973....notice my dad's 1972 blue Chrysler Newport parked in the street...it had a 400 CU IN engine and a black vinyl top.  I drove that beast around a few times!

Charlie and Dave...summer of '75.  They painted my Cuda for $300.
This was the day I went to get my Cuda after it's NEW paint job.
They had my car for a whole month for the paint job.

Larry, what was the reason for the repaint?  the car was only a couple years old...  :clueless:

dutch,
A shopping cart had a minor collision with my door.  The insurance company let me get it fixed.  I took my car to the dealership where I had bought it from for the repair to be done.  Big Mistake.
The color didn't match, the vinyl stripe did not line up with the fender and the orange peel finish of the paint was enough to make you puke.

That's where Dave and Charlie come in to the picture.  Dave was a paint guy at the body shop where he painted corvettes (fiberglass).  That was their specialty.  And Charlie had a garage and the tools and I had seen a couple of the cars they had repainted.  I was very impressed by their work.

So, I had the whole car repainted the same color except for the stripes.  They were painted on and the rear tail light panel was painted in gloss black.  I still have the can of paint with some left.  They used Ditzler Duracryl DDL-2509 Golden Haze Poly.  They sprayed 3 or 4 coats of clear over everything.

It was the shopping carts fault.  I probably would not have my Cuda today if not for that mishap.  After the new paint job in '75 my Cuda never saw snow or rain again.  I liked my car again.

before the repaint...notice the stripe at the quarter panel   :puke:

August of 1972.....
I sold my '65 Mercury Comet Caliente ragtop (my 1st car) and ordered my '73 Cuda a month later in September of 1972.
These were the last pictures of my Comet...I sold the car a day later, notice the front and rear license plates are already off pending sale.
