newbie from Charlotte NC
« on: October 23, 2007 - 10:06:48 PM »
Hi to all!! I bought my dream car about 5 months ago after a 20 year wait. It all started when my uncle bought his new Barracuda Gran Coupe (318/auto) back in 1972 the same year I was born. From the time I was old enough to realize what a car was I was in love with my uncle's car. At family get togethers I was always out in the garage either sitting behind the wheel staring at the rallye gauges pretending to drive it or cleaning it up. I have several other stories about that car that I will spare everyone for now. My uncle would often tell me that when I was old enough to drive he would let me buy it. He approched my father when I was 15 and told him that he had to get rid of the car and would my father buy it for me since I was getting ready to turn 16. My father being the idiot non car guy told my uncle no and that I would have buy my own car when I had the money although my uncle was offering it at a mere $1500.00!!!! Needless to say I was heart broken and have annomosity towards my father to this day. I spent several years tring to find that car with no luck. Here recently the fire was re-ignited when I was told about a Cuda that was for sale locally. After looking at the car my mind was set. I did not buy that car but the search was on and I ended up buying a 1972 BS23H code car out of Kentucky. It is B5 blue (original color), 340 hockey sticks, AAR front and rear spoiler, black interior with the rallye gauges. The car is in beautiful driver/week end show condition. The best part is that the 340 has been stretched out to 416 cubes with fully ported eldebrock performer heads/intake, 550 solid lift cam, demon carb, fully built 727 with reverse valve body/trans brake, 8 3/4, 3:73 gears, strange axles with 5/8 studs. The car run consistant 7.40s in the 1/8mile and that is w/o the trans brake and that is through a boched up 2 1/4 exhaust bottle necked down the original 1 7/8 exhaust tips!!!! I am currently making changes to hopefully get it in the high 6s (10 second 1/4 mile). What is neat is that the car looks like a nicely restored original 15 second car untill it starts up! I am extremely excited about the car and look forward to being a part of the cuda-challenger boards!

Dave

PS: I'll post up pics tommorrow!

Welcome aboard Dave

Glad to hear about a Cuda with the Rallye dash, I always felt Plymouth shorted their E-body folks by not making that dash standard as it was in the R/T Challengers  :dunno:

Thanks guys. I've been on quite a few car sites and the folks here seem to be extremely nice and curtious compared to other sites! Here are some pics that were taken from the previous owner. I am ordering new rallye wheels and will post more pics when they are on.

Okay I'll bite.  I'm not adverse to my rims, but it seems that everyone usually goes with Magnum 500 rims or the original.  NOS is insanely expensive I thought?  Where are you getting yours?
