Alterktion - How's it been?
« on: October 24, 2007 - 04:11:32 PM »
This is a call to all you guys sporting the AlterKtion. How has it been handling? I'm halfway through my install and I'm looking for some feedback about how they've been performing. Also, let me know if you're running with or without the sway bar.

Thanks all.  :working:

I met Mike and his son Tim in a Cuda on the power tour. Tim is a body guy for Totally Auto. They were running the Alterktion with the rack and pinion. They said it drove very well and straight but the turning radius was now wider. You might want to call Totally Auto and ask Tim for his dad's number. Then ask Mike what he thinks.

My impressions from my initial set-up are that I have too stiff springs up front (550lb/in) and the steering shaft still has a bit too much side-side clearance in it at the lower steering column bushing. I have written Bill an email regarding variable rate spring options, but he has not gotten back to me. The turning radius is larger, but the extra clearance around the bottom of the engine is nice. I am running the sway bar up front. I think once I have the spring rate dialed in, and the rest of the slop out of the steering shaft, it will be a nice set-up.

Thanks. So how much wider is the radius? Significant?

I think the turning radius is now about 2 feet larger, IIRC. Anyway, the first time you need to make a u-turn, you will notice it.

Another aspect that I forgot to mention is the wider track width (if you use the Wilwood brakes). The Mustang II style spindles kick out the wheel about 5/8" on each side when Wilwoods are used, so if you are buying new wheels soon, size them according to your new spindle geometry and not your stock spindles.
