Alternator: single of double pulley?
« on: October 25, 2007 - 08:29:16 PM »
What should I buy? My car is an original a/c car, but I have removed the outside components. Is there any difference in pulley location on the single pulley model? I still plan to run the triple groove crank pulley.

the location is the same , if you are only using 1 belt a single or dual pulley works

My car is not a restoration etc, so this will be purely a choice I will make out of desire,  but interesting that I was told that all the performance cars (BS23) were equipped with the dual pulley....the guy says they were like a safety to catch a belt that had slipped?

That way they wouldn't have to make the single pulley :stirpot:          I'm lookling at the March serpentine set up. Pulleys aren't too expensive.  I like aluminum, it's lighter.    IMO get a dual pulley so you can run PS or somethin down the road :dunno:

maybe it was an AC requirement. Didn't all the Ebody AC compressors have dual belt drive?

Pulley problems! Re: Alternator: single of double pulley?
« Reply #7 on: October 27, 2007 - 09:43:13 PM »
Got my new 70 and later alt brackets friday, but now the water pump pulley is not lined up with the alt. I was hoping to use my original triple groove a/c crankshaft pulley and it looks like I should be able to but I know that I'll need the deeper upper pulley and will order one monday. I am still running the ps, but that will be on another crank groove by itself.

They didnt ask me that but did mention I got the 8 vane pump unstead of the 6. I didnt think the outside diminsions were different. This pulley thing can be complex, but I'll get er done.

Bouchillion Performance in SC are pretty good. I bought all three: alt bracket/both pulleys. Mixing will not work!
