Victor Heads and Offset Rockers
« on: October 27, 2007 - 02:47:06 AM »
Edelbrock says their BB Victor heads require offset rocker arms.  All I have found so far are Harland Sharps at $950!  C'mon, there must be a cheaper solution?  These heads are priced nice, give a stock 383 some good compression, and they have a great modern combustion chamber design and spark plug.

I want these heads bad, but another grand?

Do Not waste your time with the Victors .

Every one I heard says yes... why do you think they are only $150 more than the rpm's ??? The Engine masters challenge with all alot of competitors using them was for boosting sales... yea they make good numbers but the engine masters challenge dont factor cost in of in house porting costs and mods needed done to them...

Even the info from Edelbrock is conflicting on how much offset is needed. Some say use a special Victor type..I think that Harland Sharp deal.. SOme say an Indy -1 style rocker will work... I havent tried. I'll use Indy first.

I hear of great story's with Eddy heads.....like a valve sticking in too tight of a guild and the piston smacking it...Kboom...

If you get the Eddy heads, make sure you have a machine shop break it down and check all the specs...I hear there is always machine work that needs to be done to make them right.

Oh, I hear they cast them cheap too....nothing you can do about that part.

Iknow when I port them the cutter will clog so the alum is softer than other alum heads & intakes I have ported & I do not believe they list a spec for the alum used

I dont rockwell test. But the valve jobs/guides on Indys suck just as much. Worse in a lot of cases. But, you can buy valvetrains for them...lol. The RPMs will handle an aweful lot of power. The VIctors are more of a race head anyway. So I use RPMs for most stuff, and jump up to Indy if the RPMs can't do what i need.

Wow, this is the first time I've heard complaints about Edelbrock heads!  Definitely good food for thought.  Thanks.

Not complaints, just reality if one takes the time to look. They are still a great bang for the buck.

So as far as aluminum heads that don't require offset rockers or special headers and are priced under $2k are the Edel RPMs the best choice?
