How does this look ?
« on: October 28, 2007 - 02:00:19 PM »
Here's the engine my boss will sell me. I think it is a good deal ?
It is finished and dyno'd, for 5300 canadian dollars, with employee discount. He does them on the side from wore out 440 steel cranks as time permits, which he redoes to fit back stock in the 400 block.
I saw it being done, he does great work and builds alot of high dollar stuff all the time. Everything was redone and machining and balanced.
All new parts other than crank and 400 block.

What do you guys think ? this is why I was wondering about suspension mods earlier for my car.

472 in 400 block
forged pistons
h beam rods
440 steel crank
clevvite bearings
main studs
hyd. cam & lifters
ported indy heads, but entry level ones
edelbrock intake
750 holley carb
balancer
7 litre oil pan and screen
melling oil pump
windage tray
crane rocker arms and pushsticks
stock type valve covers and timing cover and distriboter

power range is 2600 to 6000

It made 578 ft/lbs of torque, but only 568 horsepower on shell premium fuel at the dyno shop.

I have to decide right away, or it'll be gone toot sweet.

Looks like a good deal to me.

Not sure what the CN dollar is compared to the US dollar but, again sounds like a good deal.

I'd say go for it!!  You're not going to get those kinds of numbers out of a crate motor without stripping it down and dumping more money into it.  It sounds like that baby's ready to drop right in.

Looks like $5,300 CD = about $5,500 USD

Yes it is ready to go. It was broke in and power tuned on the dyno. The oil and filter have been changed 2 times also. He cuts the filters apart each time and said it is very good.

I'm just scared to take the plunge and spend alot of money  :dunno: but I can never beat that price.

Sounds pretty good. I'm planning a build here soon. Much more personable service than a crate engine.

The American dollar is shrinking by the day.  I say you have something there.  Heck, by now the Canadian dollar might be worth more.  :pullinghair:

The numbers seam high for a hydraulic cam 451. But, if it's a solid built big block, that's a steal no matter how it runs.
