Rear Transmission mount question.....

I'm in the final stages of putting my '72 together and I discovered that I believe I'm missing the rubber mount for the transmission tail. I believe the A body is a small rectangle block of rubber with 2 studs, but was told the E body is a round rubber unit. Where can I get one of these?

George,You can get a stock mount from the parts store but........I don't like the seemingly cheap quality of them, that's why I recommended the Poly ones.

 The dealer had them available about a year ago. It is the complete bracket with intergal rubber insert. A little pricy at $50 (back then).

Is the idea that the poly mount has no give so the tail shaft has to absorb all the acceleration energy?

I ended up going with a poly mount on mine 2 years ago, and have had no problem.  I started with a stock rubber mount, but after a month the rubber compressed and made it real tough to get into 2nd gear.  No problems since replacing it.

Exactly what I am talking about.   I save every OEM one that is in good shape that comes in on a core. You know the old saying "they don't make 'em like that any more!"

I have never seen a driveshaft or tailhousing damaged using poly mounts

Carquest had it for $6.68, the metal with the rubber insert. Make in Korea...s/b fine for my needs. Funny thing, Auto Zone wanted $15 for the same  part?

 The mount from the dealer has made in Korea stamped on the rubber also.  It is a throw away item IMO anyways so next time it will be the cheaper one. As for poly, I was concerned about the vibration transfer to the body and shifter (4-speed car) so went with OEM. Maybe someone has an option or experience with this issue?

I have seen no noticable difference ,the shifter is mounted to the trans anyway so that will be the same

The problem I had was the transmission dropped enough that the 1-2 rod was rubbing against a cross-member or something.  Part of the problem was also that the tab on the shifter mechanism that the 1-2 rod clips into had been modified at some point, so it was not quite in line with where it should have been, but the poly bushing has taken care of that.

I was just wondering because I've seen tailshafts crack using solid mounts. Poly is pretty low on the flexability scale, so I was wondering if they would have the same type of issue as solid mounts.
