K member; front end resto.
« on: November 08, 2007 - 06:31:01 PM »
While most of the drivetrain is out it would probably be a good time to clean up the K member, front suspension.I've never done anything like that.I know I can do it.But can someone walk me through this.I got alot on my plate already, but summer is a long way off. I'll start a resto. thread soon. Some upgrades:Baer brakes, some LCA plates, tubular UCA's,Other stuff...XV lower rad. brace. Keisler 5 speed. Clean and paint.
:feedback:  I have MANY questions. What's the best way to proceed without a lift? :clueless:

Well, since you've already got the engine out, there are only a few thing to disconnect and you can drop it out. You can take it out as an assembly by removing the torsion bars, steering coupler, and upper control arm eccentrics, or you can take it piece by piece and remove each individual item. Once all the parts are off it, the K itself is not unweildly heavy. A good hot solvent dip will strip it nice and then you can repaint it.

That looks like a scratch, but if its cracked, you can have it welded, then grind it smooth, sand it, and you'll never know it was there.

I've got everything out of the way or disconnected to pull the K.The T bars are sticking. I took all the load off the LCA's removed the clip. They slide about 1/4 " each way.  What am I missing?  Do I have to remove the bumpers too? :clueless:  73'cuda.

I generally undo the 15/16" nut on the LCA pivot & pry the LCA & T bar back together this wil easily pop the T bars out of the sockets
