o.k.   This is with the axel level with the frames. 22" Lower link measurement.13" shock mount to shock mount.(as per directions)Top links are 24" C/C on the axel,Not the 27" in the directions.  Does this look better?   Now I weld on the upper link tabs.(check pinion first), Lower it down to the 17" shock length.And install the shocks?

man your car is looking good. I am a big fan of chassis saver. I am hopefully going to install the air bar rear suspension this summer( i bought it before bill came out with his)

your talking width right? As I see it you don't have any options to change that dimension if you wanted to and its not critical. ( as long as you have room for exhaust and stuff. The things I know of interest, ( I'm not by any means an expert  :clueless:) are at desired ride hight, you want the links to be Leval and parallel ( upper to lower ) and that is where you want to set your pinion angle. I would tack the uppers in place the install your shocks with out the spring and articulate the axle. up and down and one side high with the other low to make sure theres no binding. If all is good then weld it up.  :cheers:

I called Bill 2 days ago,Left a message.He emailed me before,Answering one small question three times over.Here's a pic of his axel... Looks like I'm on my own here. For almost $2,000.00 I'd have thought he could have atleast made up better directions.   So... I've measured everything 10 times,This is where it sits. Ready to weld.  I extended the lower links 1/4". Left the uppers. I did fit them better(partially tightening) And "gun-sighted" the tabs. They fit good on the axel. And are level with the ground.    yeah,the C/C of the upper links is set by the upper bar tabs.  Good idea tacking them on and putting the shocks on with no springs and checking for binding.   Do the shocks compress that much?     So....    I think I'm ready...    :1zhelp: :1zhelp: :1zhelp:   Do my upper tabs look to be close to Bills pic? Notice they actually land behind the center of the axel.(?)    Tuff call...  I am VERY close!

I'm frustrated.   Just don't understand...     tightened the bolts up. They tighten everything up! Why? Isn't this supposed to move? If I weld those tabs on and tighten the bolts up. It's not going to move. :dunno:     :faint:

Knew I should have gotten the rod end links. Not the bushing type.

Anyone...?   :-\

The ends on those are clamped down and shouldn't move. Those are luke the upper mount in the shocks.  If you wanted end that rotate, you need a different style. 

Those are designed for limited movement. For those, you tighten everything up once all of the weight is on the suspension.

The type of bushing in that photo is designed to be a press fit into the link, and the serrations on the inner sleeve are there to hold the center of the bushing tight to the mounting tabs.  The only movement that bushing is designed to allow is the torsional deflection between the outer and inner sleeves.  They are very similar to, and could actually be the same as the links in the rear strut rods of a 68-78 Corvette.  That suspension should be tightened when the car is fully weighted and at its normal ride height.  If it is tightened while raised or lowered, the torsional deflection is preloaded and will result in a harsher ride and a significantly shortened bushing life.  I am no expert, and did not design the rear suspension, but I would tighten those last while the car is on all four wheels on the ground. :2cents:

Tightening them up when it's down on the ground makes sense.    Thanks for the help. I just don't know what to do.  Guess I'll call Bill again.    Wouldn't the rod end links be better?

yes and no for street use you really want rubber isolation. rod ends are harsh. Worse if you get any wear it will rattle and sound terrible like its falling apart. but they have no deflection so very accurate. Had to pull everything,pull the diff. to get the spacers out to run these new 1 piece axel bearings. Then get it all back together and installed again. Line everything up,measure,then measure again. Adjust,measure,ect...    after it was all set I tacked it in.Moved it up and down,Checked it all again. Decided to weld it up.   Adjusted the pinion again afterwards.Not much.   Put the shocks on,Jacked it up.Measured,Adjusted the shocks,measured...    :blah:   This is how it sits on it's own weight. Everything looks aligned to me.    Just wish I had those rear discs.Don't have the cash yet.  Going to take the line tabs off the axel.Thinking of custom bending some for each side along the frame. Cleaning up the look.   

This is my DH race bike. Custom suspension,And linkage. Custom shocks,tuning are nothing new to me.

Baer track brakes to match the front. 1500.00 bucks!! :money:  Should have gone cheaper. Oh well. It will happen. Still figuring out those brake lines.  Prepped the gas tank and driveshaft last nite. What to use on the gas tank? I saw some paint at Eastwood. Not sure though.  Getting the exhaust ready.Painting it.  Worried about that too... Not a whole lot of room back there. I'd love to have side exit exhaust,But the frame connectors hurt.  I'd like to run it down inside the rockers and french them in.  Now I'm prepping all the parts.... Nothing could be as bad as that underbody!
