Dropped off a Hemi at MEW today
« on: November 14, 2007 - 08:59:00 PM »
Remember this car? I got to drive last February after it came back from Barrett Jackson. It has a 472 Hemi with a 833 in it. The problem is that it smokes real heavy.  :smokin:

Possibly the rings didn't ever seat cuz the previous owner never broke it in right is one theory. Anyway, my friend who owns the Charger and I took his engine over to Mopar Engines West today dropped it off and spoke with Angie and Dave. They didn't have any nice words about MP blocks in their opinion. They said they all need going thru first before dropping in and running. We checked out their dyno, and saw some really awesome engines that I just kept rubbing my eyes almost in dis-belief. MEW is about 5 miles from my work so now that I have met Dave and Angie, they said I could come back and take pictures of their set up and his engine if I wanted. I didn't bring my camera today since this was all so spur of the moment happening. After being there, I'll be getting mine done there.

Next week I'll give them a call and see how progress is going then get some pics to post. Dave owns a blown Hemi Anglia. Sweet car.

Coming in next week by truck. I'll get to drive it and poke around with it. A fresh 440 is already built to go in it. Built also by MEW years ago and has low miles on it.

The car was delivered as promised to him. He gets in it, drives about 30 miles to where he is going to start working on it.

About 5 miles before he gets to the shop, the rear axle shaft flies out ripping a huge gash along the quarter panel. He was going about 45-50 mph. He was able to slide it off to the side of the road and put flares out. His other buddy comes over with a tow truck and takes it back to the shop. He is supposed to send me pics of it soon of what happened to it. Sounds like a C clip fell off.

Sounds like a C clip fell off.

8 3/4 rears don't use C clips. It should have an 8 3/4 in it. Sounds like an axle bearing failure. The axle bearing assembly is bolted to the end of the rear axle tube.

Just got the call from Dave the shop foreman at Mopar Engines West that the engine is finished and on the dyno. He was about to start it, but found out the carb is a Demon POS that needs completely going thru. They already know that we'll be down to their shop for the initial dyno run.

It was scheduled to be done on this Friday, 4/11 but it looks now like it'll be dyno'd this Monday, 4/14 because of the carb problem.

They know that I will be filming it and posting it here on the site. I'll be like a reporter there and get the full scoop on the whole deal i.e., what was done, HP, torque etc.

stay tuned....

Awesome!

I had an axle fall out years ago, was a bearing failure IIRC.  State trooper insisted I was doing a burnout or something.LOL  I said, "I was just taking the turn officer."  I was 18lol in a 70 Barracuda EV2.  He didn't believe me.....

Dyno had a part break on it.  :banghead:
They fixed it this afternoon though.

Tomorrow for sure. Camera is already pre checked and ready to go. I can get a good long video of it.
