Where is the serial number of a 1974 360 motor

My 360 motor has a number pad on the pass side, like a 340, but there are no numbers on it. Are the numbers on a 360 located in a different place. I'm talking about the numbers that are supposed to match the VIN number of the car.

it should be on the pad just above the oil pan behind the pass side engine mount , if it is not there it may have been a replacement engine

That's what I was wondering, if it is a replacement block.

Next question: This is in my 73 Challenger, which is a 340 4-speed car. If the original 340 had developed problems, would they have replaced it with a 360?

Good ? I suppose it is possible , if it was still under warranty & say 1 year later the 360 would have been much easier to get as no 340 would have been in regular production at that time
