1 of 1 Tripple Black HEMI Challenger
« on: January 19, 2002 - 12:09:08 AM »
About 10 of 15 years ago I was only like 14.  I was reading one of those Mopar Mags (I was a Mopar far from day one) and there was an article about a Broadcast Sheet that was found in some guys seat.  The sheet did not match the car it was in.  The sheet was for a 1970 HEMI Challenger Black with Black Interior and a black Vinyl Top and a T/A Hood!!!  It also was loaded down with other goodies.  Does any one have any info on what ever happened with that car???  Was it found or is it still lost out there in Mopar space???  This car intrigued me because I never seen a factory HEMI car with a T/A hood???  It has always stuck with me???

Some hemis Challengers were delivered with T/A hoods when the Shakers were in short supply, I talked to a guy approx 14 years ago that had a red Chall with the T/A hood at the Mopar nats :o

I also know about a Hemi Challenger that was ordered with a T/A hood but didnt come with one it had a Shaker, the car came with the antena in the rear like the T/A???  Pretty strange???

The reason the ant's where mounted on the back quarter was that the hoods where made of fiberglass and any engine/coil electrical noise would be absorbed by the ant in the front and that would make the owners very upset- remember- AM radio was the norm back then. if the hood was metal- it would sheild out the noise before it was absorbed by the ant.

I see, I didnt know that was why they moved the antena back. Thanks for the info, but the car didnt come with a T/A Hood it came with a Shaker.  I guess the car had to be preped for a T/A Hood and they ended up short.

It was ordered as a t/a it would get the relocated ant.- because as it went down the line, the assemblers new what to put on it, only at the end would they realise- opps no t/a hood--  GIVE THEM THE SHAKER BOYS!!   and u got what they put on.

So how would it show up on the options tag would show as T/A hood or a Shaker or as a speical order???  Were there a lot of Challengers and Cuda's ordered with these raceing hoods??? (besides AAR / T/A cars)  I have never seen one in a magizine or at a show that is why these cars intrige me.

A few triple black 70 hemi Challengers have surfaced in recent years, I have personally seen one of them in Sonoma California, it's a BEAUTIFUL car! It is a Hemi automatic R/T S/E but has a Rallye hood, not a T/A hood.

From what I understood the reason the car was a 1 of 1 was that it had a T/A hood.  I wish there was some else who read that article, I dont rember much but the few facts that I have listed previous.  Thanks for all the help guys.
