    Question about the value of a 70 Challenger.  I am currently storing a 70 Challenger that is complete but needs restoration.  Currently the rolls but engine and trans are out.  The engine is a 340 that was just completely rebuilt and very strong.  Working autotrans but don’t know the history of.  The body is fair and needs paint but little rust and complete.  Have may pieces to start restoration like interior components but no time.  Same goes for drive-train.  Engine is assembled.  I believe the car came standard with a 318.  What could somebody expect to get out of this?

    Probably not much to be honest  :-\ It's still a nice looking car and your probably better off making a bad arse clone instead of restoring it with a different motor that way you'd get more money.
    First thing I'd do is change the bonnet, get a buldge hood.

    I'd estimate you'd get for the car back to original but different engine: $5-8K

    Cloned and mean looking like a street machine custom with a 340 worked, $10-15K depending on how much is done  ;)

    Well... I could tell you its worth nothing, but I'll be nice and give you 500... but would be a lie. (Although the offer stands ;D) You said the car was standard with a 318- is the 340 the numbers matching or a replacement? If it was the numbers matching motor it would be worth a bit more to a collector. Fully assembled that car could be worth anywhere from 10,000-15,000. In its current state, the market that would pay that kind of price would not "bite" so to speak.

    Currently (not to sound pessimistic), its not worth that much, maybe 500-1000 depending. On eBay a 70 Chally R/T 440-6 that was in the middle of resto and on a rotisserie w/ numbers matching engine went for about 4000 (If I remember correctly). The thing is that the high paying crowd on eBay are collectors first, enthusiasts later. They don't see the end result/potential, they see a "piece of garbage" (and I use that term to portray their thoughts, not the truth) that they can't drive.

    dpcrum, welcome to the board.  Do you have the fender tag or build sheet that we could decode.  If it was a 318, then chances are that it was a plain jain (non-RT).  However, those can be desirable, especially in a 70 because people feel (morally) free to clone into anything.  70's and 71's are usually higher in price than the later ones.  

    If you could share the fender tag info and maybe snap a picture of what you feel are the "bad" spots on the body, I'm sure we could give you a pretty good estimate.  However, as many have said on this forum...it's worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it.  You'll probably get more money for it on eBay than a private sale, though.

    I agree with everyone, post some photos and we'll be able to help you out more. As WSM said why sell it? If I were you I'd keep it and make a bad arse clone, despite what you may think about that word "clone" done properly they can fetch some big bucks, but then again you risk the chance of losing money on it.
    Make an awesome car and keep it to enjoy, that's what there about  8)

    Actually the car doesn't belong to me.  I am simply storing the car for somebody.  I would like to purchase from this person but currently they are not interested.  I will check the door tag.  Will work on pics not much to see right now.  Thanks for all the help this is a really good group.

    dp: If your interested in buying an E-body (Cuda, Challenger) I'd wait you'll find a better buy than that, in fact there's a 440/727 1970 Challenger in the for sale forum on this board for $6K  ;)
