    Rear sway bar bushings

    I am in need of the bushings for the brackets that attach to the frame rail on the rear sway bar on my 71 R/T.First where can I find them and second how do I install them?

    When I needed them I searched every where and no luck,best bet is use the front sway bar replacement rubbers and drill out the bracket your self and re weld.
    I do have the proper end links if you need them though.

    I bought a rear sway bar from Firm Feel.  It mounts in the factory location, but I'm not 100% on if the rubber would work in the stock brackets.  If they don't fit, then perhaps you could get the brackets and the rubber from Firm Feel.  I found that they were very helpful and willing to work with you.  For instance, I needed the AAR style rear sway bar, but needed it bent for a B-Body rear.  They did it no problem.  Just an option for ya...

    I have purchased bushings from Energy Suspension that are of the correct size except they have a bulge on the edge that I think can be cut off to make fit. I have yet to do this but give me a few weeks & I will work on them & report back.....just be patient.

    REPOST

    Installed the Energy Suspension Bushings p# 9.5108G in the OE rear sway bar brackets. Had to remove the raised lip from one side, greased well & pressed in using a bench vise & used the brackets from the kit to hold OE brackets off to allow bushing to come through.

    I used the same parts, but in black.  I wasn't comfortable cutting the ends off of the bushings, so I drilled out the welds on the brackets and used a recessed head machine screw and nut to bolt the brackets back on.  That way the bushings won't be able to work their way out of the brackets.

    As hard as it was to press the bushings in I doubt that they would work out, dont think there's much side load on them.... ck back in a few years & I can tell for sure.  ;D

    I have to ask a stupid question: how do you fit poly bushings over the end link eye? Are the bushings cut in two with a band saw?

    Has anyone ever put a 8 3/4 rear sway bar onto with a Dana 60?
    I have the rear sway bar and well...considered it. but never saw anyone try it before.

    The bushings come split on one side and slide on with some effort.

    Here's an interesting question, and only slightly off-topic. In other threads people have talked about frame damage resulting from the frame mounts and ways around it. If you drill the rivets that hold the  bushing clamps to the frame mounts and replace them with bolts, what if you then welded the frame mount to the frame as a gusset? You'd have to make some provision for the bushing brackets (I'm thinking weld nuts inside the frame rails), but it seems like that should reinforce the rails sufficiently.  :dunno:
