    Were you there at the dealers in the 70's?   I was and I saw some things that everyone would argue that did not come on cars from the factory but they did.  All you had to do was to know someone and they could build it the way you wanted even if it did not come on the build sheet

    Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

    Here again I have to agree with 426Hemi, the car I saw I can all but stake my life on the fact that it was original factory paint with no lower organisol paint, it was a FE5 red Barracuda with a 383 and those scoops in natural or painted black. We wondered at the time ('83) if it was some sort of add on that the guy did himself but he said the car came that way.

    Sounds like the same thing as people who argue that you could get white and red hockey sticks from the factory. Show me some proof and I'll believe it. Until then I'll believe in what I have seen with documented cars and factory info.

    The cars and trucks that I know were modified are long gone.  Wish I would have had a digital camera or even a camera back then and I would have the proff that you sound so sure you do not believe.  I was there,  I saw it and I also was there when calls were made and also there when the vehicles came off the trucks from the factory.  I was washing a new dart in 1975 when I took it in it was forest green and when I used a power washer on it all of the green came off and it was white.  Another one had dodge emblems and the other had plymouth emblems on it.  We had to paint it again and put the correct emblems on it.  My boss was mad because it was a sold car.

    Not all inspection marks were in the same place, mistakes were made and as previously stated, concessions were made in the name of sales. Weird things could and did happen on the assembly line whether you choose to believe it or not. My '75 Cordoba had 906 heads on a 400, that was not supposed to happen but I know it did because I pulled the engine down and saw it with my own two eyes. All original motor, never even had the carb taken off before I owned it. Not everything fits into a neat box, not everything is black and white.

    You don't want a REAL up close pic as you'll see the rust forming on the rockers!!!  :roflsmiley:

    Here's a pic I had handy.  It has a wide black section with a black pinstripe above it.  I like it.  Again, I think it was done by the previous owner that way.




    In response to whether or not the M46 cars had the black out, I have no idea  :dunno: but all I know is that Mopar did some things off the beaten trail and the more I get into this hobby, the more weird things I hear have been done.  Much I'm sure can't be documented but never say never in my opinion.

    This might end up the way of the 1970 Challenger R/Ts with 340s from the factory....  :poopoke:  :roflsmiley:  :smilielol:

    I feel the same on the yellow vert. Sure looks like original paint to me, but no black out. So either someone added them at one point (dealer or owner) or it came without black out.

    Kiss, I do believe that is the same car. Look closely at the lower passenger side portion of the windshield. They both have the same round sticker applied.

    Do you remember where and when you saved that picture? I know you save a lot of them, so it may be hard to recall.

    Doing some checking on the M46 on this site & while I find several threads but no one has really pinned down just what it is.   M46 must be a code for a set of options & not a model...I see the scoops, blackout, pinstripe. I see 318 340 & 383 mentioned so power-train must not be an ingredient  :dunno: ...Question is What All did the M46 add?...Were there options you could NOT get with this?....Models it came on or didn't ?

    Wade M46 is a code option. Of course you could by the stuff and add any of it to your car and even a dealer could install the stuff. But if it doesnt say M46 on the fender tag and has only some stuff on it, then it isnt an m46 coded car.  Yes The options that go with the m46 code were posted through Barry from original documents.  My car has every factory installed item that came with the M46 code. The front grill chrome bars are in my cabinet in the shop. The gray grills were painted black. Some claim that they have original gray grills.  I re painted my grill Argent gray myself. Only and AAR grill is molded in black and came out in mid production. There were no AAR cudas in July of 69 so the grills were painted black on the M46 coded barracuda.  There are so of these cars left, that it is very hard to find a complete car.  Mine was missing the engine when I got it, but as you have noticed, the m46 code was for trim and nothing to do with the engine size codes. The engine codes on these cars was for the barracuda base models, not the cuda model
