High Volume Mechanical Fuel Pumps
« on: November 28, 2007 - 10:10:23 AM »
I am looking for a quality HI-PO unit and noticed a few things.  I currently have a 3/8" line and think a 1/4"  fuel pump will restrict fuel flow.

Carter Pumps are only 1/4"  inlet/outlet

Holly strip/street has a choice of 3/8 or 1/4"

Edelbrock is 3/8"  inlet/oulet

Any comments?

I have had problems with the Holley pumps , I use the Carter usually but I drill the openiings behind the fittings out to 5/16 or a bit larger , at least to match the hole inside the fittings , they seem to flow enough for the engines I have built , be careful though Carter misboxes the Big block Dodge pump with another pump often , if the pump touches the block or doesn`t have 8 bolts holding it together you have the wrong pump , return it

:scared: I just ordered some stuff from Rockauto and that order also included carter mechanical fuel pump for BB. Mine was clamped (or whatever is the right term) together so no bolts. That means that the pump is wrong? Returning stuff from Finland isn't very cheapo.

I left the pump to my workplace and I can take a pic from it tomorrow if CP can say from the pic if it is right or wrong? I cannot test fit into the block because I'm 150 miles from my car for next two weeks.

Summit pictures are wrong 50% of the time. Even what they say about the item can be too. Its a great place to shop, as long as you know what you need.

What they show you and tell you about the item and what it really is can be 2 diff. things, guess they sell too much stuff to have everything perfect.

I've always used Carters. You put in the in/out nipples with the I.D of your choice
