From my understanding there was 184 N-96, "Shaker" (as indicated on the buildsheet and Fender tag), Challenger R/T's made by Dodge in 1970. It is also my understanding that this number is unusually low due to production deficiences in the parts suppliers to Dodge regarding the fiberglass "shaker' assemblies. The engine choices were limited to the 440 SixPack and 426 Hemi Head engines. According to some Shaker suppliers in the aftermarket such as Scott Smith of Harms Auto and Ben Snobar they made two,(2), additional cars other than the 184 made. these are 1 383 4v N-96 carand reportedly a 340 car as well. I have never seen these cars or the documentation to prove it however. I am also not saying they dont exist. Heres mine. Govier decoded ect..it is slightly modified,(engine, suspension, wheels), it also has a modern paint application, base coat clear coat, it's been 'overrestored' so to speak. In 1971 there were more N-96 Challengers made. I dont know the production numbers. I also understand that Dodge made Small Block,(340), and 383, 440SixPack and Hemi as well in 1971, but the year 1970, for all intents and purposes was a 'special' year for the N-96 Challengers.
