Thanks. Why do you recommend the .82 over the .64? Would it work well with my 318 for the time being?
The TKO 0.64 IMO gearing is just a little too high (low) for most people who drive there cars in all types of conditions and locations (highway, city, suburban, etc). I made the comparison chart for myself when I was looking. I used 3.23 gears as an example but as you can see the the old TK0-500 is too low a gear, 1st is basically a waste of time and that's using 3.23s in the example.
Not only that but doing the speed limit (65mph) in 5th is too low IMO at 1,700rpm and when you're at 2,200rpm you're way up at 83mph lol If you want to set a land speed record this is great news but in real life it's a complete waste. You need a bit of punch and to keep the engines rpms up a little more than that. Anyhow, check out the chart. I'm by no means a pro this is just what I have learnt and found when I purchased mine.
TKO-500 (0.68) 550hp3.23s = 3.98 1st gear ratio.
65mph in 5th is 1700rpm.
A lowly 2,300rpm is 83mph.
TKO-600 (0.64) 650hp3.23s = 3.49 1st gear ratio.
65mph in 5th is an above idle like 1,600rpms!?!
A lowly 2,300rpm would be cruising at 93mph.
TKO-600 (0.82) 650hp (My pick)
3.23s = 3.49 1st gear ratio
65mph in 5th = 2,100rpm Much better.
2,300rpms is better throttle responsive 72mph.
Cheers,
