And my first thought was: What about side impact?
I'm getting old and boring. :walkaway:

Side impact resistance is a function of the internal structure of the door, so it likely is still there, or could be put there, however, I did notice in the last demo they started driving off before the door had closed. Granted you can do that with a conventional door too, but it will swing back as you move forward. This thing could potentially leave a gaping hole unless it is tied into the transmission computer to prohibit movement until closed.

Cool idea though.

The one thing I did notice is that the B pillar is gone.
Unless they re inenforced the chassis, I would think it would've sacrificed the rigidity of the car.

Pretty neato, but it can only be done with cars that don't have frames around the window it seems.  The B-pillar is a good point as is the transmission tie in.  I know with my van the sliding doors don't open when in drive.

Neat idea.  What happens when it is raining?  I guess your whole interior gets wet.

Good question. I bet they install an automatic canopy that slides out from inside the roof to shield the interior.

Thar was the first thing I thought was what happens when it rains. It is a great idea no more door dings.
