Transmission fluid cooling line help please....
« on: December 17, 2007 - 09:17:32 AM »
I have the line that comes out of the REAR of the 727 transmission run and hooked up to the radiator, but the other one was kinked/torn so I will have to fab a new one. Can someone fill me in on the easiest method? I tried to snake the damaged one through but it appears that it needs to be bent on the trans end first and hooked up there but not before sliding it through the headers/draglinke and over the K frame.

thanks, George in Tallahassee

George you can bend a new one with a tubing bender or order new from fine lines or classic tube. They are not that expensive.

I took the lazy way out with mine and bought a new set from inlinetube.com  It was a few years back, but I think it cost $59.

Can someone please verify that the cooling lines are 5/16"? I now have one in place, but will have to bend up the shorter one. It appears that a 5' section of tubing will suffice. Has anyone made one of these lately that could offer some suggestions as to which end to start on first?

Thanks,

George

5/16 is correct , start bending at the rear

Thanks on those tips, but should I first stick the 5' long piece through the headers/draglink and over the K frame and bend it on the car or try to shape it first and then worm it through those areas. It seems pretty difficult to get the old one to go back in there.

:clueless:  I don't understand your tubing routing myself. Also I went and bought pre bent tubes for a challenger 727 from inline tube and they were fairly easy to install even with the drive train in.

But the confusing thing to me is, that the trans lines follow the side of the trans, goes by the starter, beside the block, under the harmonic balancer then to the rad tank. I can't seem to picture it going through a header pipe which is a bad idea in the first place because of heat. Heat kills transmissions.

Anybody got any pics of their cooler line routing under the car to help George out. I don't have any available. :picture:

route it through the best way possible , try to anchor it somewhere near the middle / starter area make sure it doesn`t contact the header anywhere & try to prevent it from rubbing on anything as well

Thanks guys. I have the drivers side line on, bought a new 5' straight section for the other one but found out that I need to get the rod on the shifter fit before I route the line. I thought it would be strictly a bolt on but thats not my case. I bought the car with no tranny but the shifter was intact so I am in the dark on the process. THe rod I got fits in the lever on the trans fine, but I have not figured out how to get the shifter to work properly. I have a picture on the parts wanted section so maybe I just need to play with it more. It will get done,  believe me!

Now its a linkage problem....Re: Transmission fluid cooling line help please....
« Reply #14 on: December 28, 2007 - 10:45:40 PM »
I cant get the shifter to shift! Thanks to TAC Trans, I now have the correct bracket for the down rod from the shifter, but I am now thinking the rod I have that connects the actual shift lever coming out of the 727 to the shift rod that extends down through the tunnel may be the wrong length and that is causing it to bind. Maybe someone can offer some tips on installing these rods? I have the cotter pins on the top as I lay under the car. Should I have the shifter in park and the lever on the tranny all the way to the rear (I think that is Park on the trans??). Any suggestions would be most appreciated!

George

a pic of the linkage will follow.
