Overkill. Unless your sitting in water deep enough to fill up to that point, you won't get enough moisture into the shifter location to make it a big deal. If the water is that deep, iti s going to be coming in other areas before the shifter becomes an issue. It isn't close enough to the wheels to get spray, it is behind the engine, which deflects spray, its up in a tunnel which restricts access, and it is next to the exhaust, which is hot and evaporates spray. Its a '58 chevy. Chances are he isn't going to be fording any hood deep streams with it.
