    Riddle someone told me today....

    Still cant figure how it ends up  :screwy:


    Me, Stroker and Old School are having dinner somewhere, waitress brings the bill.. $25, even.

    *I have a $10 bill, Stroker has a $10, and Old School has a $10 bill.

    *We give it to the waitress ($30) she brings us back five $1 bills back

    *I get one $1 bill ($1, $1, $1, $1)
    *Old School takes one $1 bill ($1, $1, $1)
    Stroker takes on $1 bill ($1, $1)
    We leave the waitress a $2 tip. ($0)

    Still with me?

    *So $25 bill, $30 given, 5 - $1 bills given back, we each take one $1 each and leave $2 tip...

    *So if we each gave $10 first, and took back one $1 bill from the change, we spent $9 each.

    *So whats $9 times 3 people? - $27...

    *....we left $2 tip  ..... $27 + $2 = $29

    Where'd the last dollar go?!  :pullinghair:

    You did not pay $9 a piece tough.  You can't divide 25 by 2 and get an even number.  That's whyyou had to take your change back and leave a tip with the money that was returned by the waitress.

    I think it has to do with order of operations, BEDMAS or whatever that highshool acronym is...lol.


    Edit** I must admit that one stumped me as a kid I must say, my math teacher told us to figure it out in grade schoool...lol.

    techically when all 3 of you paid one of you spent an unclaimed penny more  :money:

    Where the logic goes south is the statement that you each paid $9.00  You each paid $10.00  So that's $30.00.  You each got $1.00 back, making it $27.00.  $2.00 went to the tip,  making $25.00.  The exact amount of the bill.

    The correct way to state the division of the payment would be:

    *So $25 bill, $30 given, 5 - $1 bills given back, we each take one $1 each and leave $2 tip...

    *So if we each gave $10 first, and took back one $1 bill from the change, we spent $9 each.

    *So whats $9 times 3 people? - $27...

    *....we left $2 tip  ..... $27 - $2 = $25 ( The bill )  The tip was taken out of the $27 you paid, not added to it.
