Thanks for the concern guys. I'm fine thanks but I did feel it well, quite a major one.
It was 6 hours north of me and it still felt big. 6.8 on the richter scale and plenty of damage up north.  :sly:

Thankfully no one was injured badly or killed (as far as I know) but there was decent amount of damage to shops and houses. One town clock tower was leaning real bad, like the leaning tower of Pisa(?).

All is good, thanks again.

 :iagree:

I cant imagine what an earthquake feels like.  For tornado drills we were taught to stay in when we were in school.  For earthquake, do you go out in an open area or something?

Glad to hear you're alright Carl.

the scary ones are when you're in bed sleeping. Man I hate being woke up that way.

Thanks people, it was a decent one but not "the big one". New Zealand is due for a massive one any time now. There is something like a 2 or 3 hundred year gap between "the big ones" and we are well over due, unfortunately. The worst part is, a massive plate runs straight through New Zealand, it basically is New Zealand lol. Where I live, the river is a 2 minute walk and that river is the major fault line in Wellington and New Zealand, sucks for sure but you can't do much about it except prepare for the worst when it eventually arrives.

71bigblock - I think I'd rather have earthquakes, Tornadoes if they hit your house, totally destroy it. Nothing left. Earthquakes on the other hand just mess it up. However, neither are nice and I wouldn't wish them upon anyone. With earthquakes though there is no warning (like Tornado's) but at least there are only big ones many decades apart, not a season like in Tornado alley.

Tornadoes are bloody scary man, don't car how "man" you are they are exciting to watch and all on TV but to be there in real life and have you and your families lives at risk would definitely be a scary moment (to say the least). For earthquakes you are taught to stand on under a door way which are the strongest supports in your house. That or go under something there is very strong like a solid wooden table. NEVER go outside as the ground may and can open up during it and close up afterward therefore leaving you underground. Though if it is a tall building you should make your way out, I think? Not sure on that.

Rest assured my American friends everyone down here is fine, nothing time and a little cash won't fix.
