Converter $$$ Differences

My coan Pro Street converter is $330 and stalls 2800-3200 and the TCI Street Fighter converter stalls up to 3500 and is $500 why is there a $170 difference ???

Also lets say im stalling at 3200 would it benefit me to go to a 3500 converter ???  like a lower e.t.  etc... :working:

All converters are not created equal....   :grinno:   The quality of parts used and workmanship vary widely, as does the performance and longevity..    I have a custom built street/ strip converter in the Beast.  3800 or so and it has performed flawlessly on both the street and the track.  But it is pricey..     :money:   Here are a couple of links to the company..

If your stroker is set up properly (which I beleive it is) you shouldn't need a higher stall converter. It should be pulling hard at 3000 RPM. By the way,I would pick a Coan over the TCI any day. :grinyes:

Did you dyno your engine? I always have mine built after the dyno in anything I build serious. There are many variables involved as you know. Car weight, tq range, wheel size, rear end gears, cam specs, carb flow, Rpm. Seems I could never have one made for under 800 bucks. But you need one to lock up at the given rpm and to have as little slipage as possible on the top end.

A good converter can make or break a good et.   While I was having my converter freshened up, I borrowed a friends converter for my car. My cuda 3780 lbs run a best of 9.72 @ 142  with my friends converter in there, but a different brand and close to the same stall numbers only went a 10.20 or so. It was an off the shelf converter.  And remember about trying to make the car hook on street tires. That gets tougher without slicks. Your car probably has close to 550/600 or better ft lbs of tq. if not more.  I'd call coan or turbo action or someone who could give you the pros and cons :2thumbs:  You may have a bunch more et in your car then you realize.

My 3500stall/3900flash dyanmic $650 converter is more street friendly than my cheap 2500stall and outperforms it in all conditions. Wakens up with the pedal drop

I really think I need a littler higher stall converter.... my car is mostly street driven and dont want to go to high on the street but would like a litlte more for the track..... goody how is your 3500 for the street???

I know coan makes really good converter as well as TCI but just done understand the higher $170 cost......

Stroker i daily drove and still would if i could afford it on that converter. its very nice. when you call someone give them all your specs perfect, no fibbing on them, if your not sure of your weight...weight it, truck stop or something. All helps it get setup right for your car.

I do have a good size cooler in front of the radiator, and a cooler in my fenderwell with a fan on it, oh and a deeper pan to help keep things cool.

Others will agree on this. Definately take it into consideration.


Go buy a custom tweaked converter. You have a serious car, no need to toss a off the shelf convterer in there. Your car will all around perform better with something custom to your ride.

It will be custom tailored to your ride and they can make it do much more than an off the shelf. PTC i hear makes a great converter for less than the dynamics. However i have ZERO complaints about my dynamic. Mine was $650, 904s cost more than 727 converters if i remember right.

Converter choice is just as important as cam choice if you ask me, pick something that will be tweaked to your exact combo, it IS worth the extra bucks...

goody... you should feel lucky to have a vintage mopar at your age!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! but seriously get rid of the BMW thing....................  alot of members here are i.m.-ing each other about that logo  :poopoke::poopoke: seriously get rid of it!
