Author Topic: Torq Thrust II's on an Ebody? (Read 4717 times)

I know this subject (or wheels in general) has been beat dead in the past. I have decided to go with TT2's but am being told the fitment I am asking for is custom size for the TT2. I have read thru several wheel threads and the following seems to be a working setup for several stock Ebods out there with no chassis mods. Ideal fitment is:

Front: 17 x 8 4.5 BS
Rear: 17 x 9.5 5.5 BS

The closest they offer for the 5-4.5 bolt circle is:

Front: 17 x 8 4.75 BS
Rear: 17 x 9.5 6.375 BS

If I go with the custom fitment its about $50/wheel more, and lead time will be a month+. I am inclined to try the stock sizes. Maybe 4.75" BS will clear on the fronts? I know the 6 3/8 will be an issue but would consider spring relocation or maybe even spacers. What's your thoughts? I don't want to run larger than 17" and am thinking a 45 or 50 height tire is about all I need for the look I am after. What do you estimate the width of the tire this guy has on the back?

Thats interesting, my torq thrust m's are 4.5" and 6" backspacing. im running 17x8 and 18x9s on my car. fronts fit with no mods, rears i'd say you need to run super stock springs and no mods....on my car atleast. 235's and 295's here

Yeah, isnt that odd? The M's have different std sizing than the TTO or TT2.

Thats a good looking wheel for sure. I run a set on my 99 Camaro SS. 17x11 out back. 315's look killer.

Super Stock springs give you more height but dont do anything for the backspace issue, right? There's 7/8" difference between the 6 3/8 and 5 1/2 safe fit. Am tempted to go ahead and order the off-the-shelf sizes.

Have you measured your clearance from tire to leafspring. I have a Challenger also, and I had to move the leaf springs in (Dr Diff kit) just to gain clearance for 6" backspacing. Rims are on order now, hope to have them soon.

I created a simple spreedsheet to calculate the delta inward and outward for tire/BS combos. All cars must be different because I see Goody running 295's w/6" BS and not moving the springs. Granted he added a spacer, but I can't run that same combo with my springs moved in 1"

Bottom line, measure your set-up and then calculate what will fit.

when the snow melts enough, I have to see if my 18x10s will fit the back of my challenger. I think they have 5" backspace...

Yep they gotta be different somewhere. The s/s springs help the arch of the quarter go up higher which i think not the top lip, but around the arch could possibly rub on my car with stock springs. Other than that, they fit great! I'm actually going to consider going to a taller tire after these Nittos die out. Hopefully a LONG time, but i've found I can fit a 29 1/2" tall x 9" wide slick in my car, and clear it well.....wonder if i can squeak that on a 18" wheel and get that height

Good advice; I still am unsure what tires I will run but knowing wheel clearance is a start

I just pulled the drivers rear wheel off and using a straight-edge and tape measure I get 6.25". I measured from the flat plane of the hub at the aft most part of the wheelwell. It looks like the springs aren't parallel as the measurement increases as you go forward and is around 7" on the front side of the wheel.

Now THAT is too slick! Assuming variations in tire manufacturers and models, how accurate is that? Within an 1/8 inch or ?

It's dead on, matches my spreadsheet. Just make sure you get the BS right.

Don't pull the rim off to measure, just measure the clearance from tire to leafspring, then you'll know how much you can move.

That website gives the delta inward and outward with the tire size factored in.

Another thing you might consider, check tire prices. I was shocked by the differences. I'm getting 275/40/18 for the rears because they are $125. The 285 or 295s are $250!

I can't justify paying an extra $250 for the slight size difference.

ok, it looks like with 6" BS available and a 5.5BS wheel the widest tire I can run with is a 265. Even that is right on the spring at 10.4 inches wide. What clearance do I need to maintain on the spring? 1/8" or?
