Is the e-mail function really needed ?
« on: December 21, 2007 - 07:04:34 PM »
Hi guys & Gals  ,

I personaly switched the e-mail reply off as i had to clean out my e-mails all the time after every reply.  Started getting out of hand.  I just check through my "Show new replies to your post" then i check the "Show unread post since last visit"  both of which are located next to my Avatar at the top of the screen.

So in reality i for one do not think we need this feature, but that is just my thoughts.

And i always jump on for a look aroung here anyway.

I have it shut off but if there was a post I wanted to see the the response I may turn it on so I know when I got a response to a question.

I basically log on everyday, so i just hit show replies to your posts at the top, i never use email notification. the slower running sites like moparnuts and moparts that i dont visit often, i use notification.

I just log in and go to first unread post link, then save that as my bookmark. No whenever I come to the site and can see the newest posts. I don't use the email function, but could see why those who don't visit everyday would want to.

The only email function I used was only if I got a PM but that seems to be not working now?  :clueless:  :dunno:

I have never used the email function, but I come on everyday also.  I guess if somebody didn't come on much or was trying to sell a car or something, they might like the email.

I like the email notification option because I check my email daily, and if I see an email from this website to a topic I posted in, I can go to it immediately by clicking the email link.

"Show new replies to your post" works too.  It's just another way of doing the same thing.

Example:  Double click a .DOC file and MSWord opens up.
-or-
Open MSWord and then browse to open the file you need.

I prefer to dbl click the file I want to open Word.  Same result, but quicker in my opinion.  Did I get off the topic here???  Sorry, just throwing my 2¢ around in here.  Gotta love the "¢" key...huh!!!!???¿¿?   :smilielol:

I don't use the email or last unread post functions. I just start from the top cuda-challengers galore and work my way down to the Joke section. When you pop in like me, usually every hour it's easy to keep track, usually only 2-3 new blue post signs in every section. When I'm done I just click mark posts as read and close the browser down until next time.  :2cents:

I rely on the e-mail notification because sometimes I am helping someone with a problem (transmission) and I get quick notification of a response even if I am not logged onto CC.com. I can click on the URL in the e-mail,go right to the response, submit more info and it's done! That way people get their answers quicker than waiting for me to log back on or look and see if some one has responded.
