1971 Challenger color/body options
« on: December 22, 2007 - 09:42:00 AM »
So, I'm still playing w/ my welder and putting some patches in in prep for the floor/4spd hump install.

so, now some 71 Challenger questions

1) Were the available in B3 blue?  I like it, really intense
1a) is it a metallic paint?
1b) Think it would look good as a single stage?  (remember, kinda budget race car build here...)
2) Were the elastomeric bumpers available?  Those would be body color right?

Ok, that's it for now...  I'm getting pretty damn good welding... I hate the fenders, but there's no good fiberglass ones so I'm stuck fixing/replacing...

Dont shoot me if I am wrong but I think the lighter metalic blue in 71 was B2 blue.

thanks T/A.

One of the themes for my Challenger is a correct era track car.  And nothing screams race car like high impact paint.

I've settled on FJ6 Green Go now with a white non-R/T stripe.

Now, would I be "correct" in painting fiberglass bumpers body color as if they were the elastomeric option?

I was suprised when Barry let me in on the fact that elastomeric bumpers were not installed on any production Challengers in 1970. In 1971 it was an option with R/T cars but a very rare one to be sure.

Are the high impact colors rarer than normal?  My 71 Challenger was originally butterscotch with non R/T side stripes, 318 auto console, air conditioning.  I don't plan on going original as I like the darker colors.

Depends on the color.

It depended on the original buyer and taste.  Some were liked more then and some are liked more now.
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

That is what my car was and I am going back with the original paint scheme. My car had white stripes/interior/top with Butterscotch. Original drivetrain was 318 console shifted with air. It will most likely retain the slapstick but it has had big block motorvation for at least half the time I have owned it and since I like the big blocks it will get another one when I re-assemble it.
