Engine wiring loom - missing G/YT wire to coil??? need help!
« on: December 22, 2007 - 09:11:26 PM »
Seems to be a wire missing from my engine loom but it came out of a working car in the first place so now I'm a bit confused.  The loom is missing the grey/yellow trace wire that goes from bulkhead connector position 20 to the negative side of the coil.  Bulkhead connector does not have a connector for this position though on either inner or outer plugs.  Car was a 318/auto.

I am installing Mopar electronic ignition which has a wire that goes to the negative side of the coil - will this replace the missing wire?  What would have connected to the negative side of the coil in the first place - must have been something?  Do I need to replace this missing wire AND have the EI wire also??

No problems:
The grey/trace wire that went to #20 is the feed for the tach (on a rallye dash).  If you don't have a grey wire on the inside of the car coming from #20, then I presume you don't have a stock tach.  The Mopar electronic ignition has the wire going to the coil negative (black/yellow?) and that is needed for the new ignition system, but it isn't replacing the grey wire. They're just two unrelated wires going to the same place.

Thanks Guys.   I have a non-rallye dash so correct about the tacho.  Checked out the original engine this arvo (at my brothers house) and it had a black wire on the distributor that I assume went to the coil.  New distributor doesn't have a llone coil wire on it so can I assume that this is replaced by the two wires that go back to the new ignition unit which then connects back to the coil.  If this is correct then all is well.  Thanks again.
