 :roflsmiley: That IS the long version! 4150 Chrome-Moly I've never heard the VCMO either. I always get a kick out of the different terms used for the same thing in different parts of the world. Looks real good, nice work.  :thumbsup:

finished the hood yesterday. The blaster didn`t try the outside so I had some sanding left to do...   gotta love the looks of clean steel  :cooldancing:
I had some friends over yesterday to help put it back on the car. It fits pretty well but I have some adjustments left to do before I can start sanding for paint.  Those rallye hoods sure are a nice piece of metal shaping art...  designers should take more time to draw stuff like that for cars.... I love those wild shapes  :woo:

Looking good Dutch :2thumbs: how do the hinges feel with the weight of the hood on them now ? they go through the motion real smooth ?and does the hood drop straight in to place when lowered ?

I like the way they feel now, I actually have to push it up and push it down  :bigsmile:    sideways motion is muuuuch better... I used to be able to push the hood a mile to the east and west. But if I had to do them again I would make the fit on the rivets even tighter. I gave them 0.2mm play since I didn`t want to find myself sitting on the hood to close it  :scared:   but with the hood on, the play on the 5 pins shows a little.  no problem I guess but next will be 0.10mm at most. It just needs some practising to learn what can and cannot be done when rivetting the chromo steel... It doesn`t "grow" as much as I expected.    I hope to get most gap corrections done tomorrow, I put the doors ,fenders and front on when the hood was gone. The hood is in place when I close it, even without the guides on the fenders, but it almost hits the fender near the windshield on one side.

Sounds real good :clapping: so the back of the hood sits down and does not need an extra push like worn out hinges ?

Have you thought of running off a batch of new pivot pins and offering them to others ?  When i need to rebuild my hinges i would like to know i can call on your services if that would be alright  :bigsmile: just a thought for some extra cash for yourself ?

no it doesn`t pop up.

well.... I`m not a turner, I`m a blacksmith  :woohoo:     It takes me forever to produce those on a conventional machine... cnc might be a solution, but they still have to be rivetted correctly though.
It would probably be a better idea to have them made in the usa... most e-bodys are there, so are the hinges.

Sorry i thought your box was shipped out long ago untel you asked so I went and found I left it on the mailing table and someone moved it to a shelf for me so it wouldnt get lost.

time to update a bit...
after adjusting the panels I started filling and blocking. Never did that before and as expected it took a LOT of time...  :eek4:  but again, just keep going and there will be an end to it.  The body is in high build primer now and before the final stages of blocking I want to paint the enginebay and inside of the hood. The doorjambs, doors and trunklid were painted a while ago but I will repaint them next week or so. Temperatures were too low when I did those parts, resulting in tiny bubbles in the paint...   :violin:

today I painted the enginebay and hood  :bananasmi    finally a larger area in color...  :bigshades:
