dutch 1970 cuda
« on: December 24, 2007 - 01:49:23 PM »
I purchased my cuda about 2 years ago, but before I could pic it up I had to build its  home. This took about a year but then finally...there it was my own cuda in the driveway    After sitting in a garage for nearly 10 years I fixed some things and took it for a drive. I wanted to, because I like to know how it feels and handles before taking it apart. :burnout:
Now, a few months later the cuda is up in the rotisserie and I have started cleaning the underside. It almost feels like christmas ,undoing it of all the dirt and underbody coating. hardly any rust found so far! :jumping:  I agree it would be nice to have it media blasted, but since the body is in such good shape and blasting is pretty expensive, I decided to clean it by hand. I have more time than money...
here are some pics of the cuda when I found it, got it home, etc.
More pics will come along with the project.  :working:    hope you like it...  I do...

Looks good.  Have fun doing the restore.  Can hardly wait to get started on mine.
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

I don`t have the fendertag or buildsheet with the car, and I am not sure what came standard on the cuda, but it has ps, front discs, rallyedash, rear defogger, 15"rallye`s, and it had air and cruise but they were long gone...the road lamp switch is still in the car but the lamps are gone. :stomp:

How about rubber bumpers? In one pic there's one on the front and then it's gone in another pic.

o...yeah...it did have a rubber front bumper but it took a hit in the middle and it had to be pushed back more than an inch to make the sides fit nicely again. I made a mould to keep it in shape while pushing it back under a press, but it still twisted.  Since I like the chrome bumpers more than elasto, I replaced it.

about time I posted something new here...

in the last few months I have been working on the body as much as I could, and made some progress. I don`t have a nice big warm shop, just a roof over my head between my house and my neighbours....that means I have to deal with airhumidity and cold. I can`t take the paint off too large areas of sheetmetal, so I have to work in small steps at a time. I don`t like working this way but it`s this way or no way... :dunno:
Anyway,  after stripping the car I started taking off the factory undercoating and repairing the front framerails. Then went on with the enginebay. welding up holes drilled in the car over the years, and doing some rust repairs at the hoodhinges and next to the rad.

driverside upper doorhinge, lower front both quarters, all panel seams taken out, cleaned primed and sealed again, the inside of the roofpanel sanded and the hard to reach places soaked in por 15.

:wow: Looks like you have made a lot of progress! Did you use a brush to apply the seam sealer?

and still workin on the trunk floor and extentions... I`ve cut out most of the floor, but since the sheetmetal parts are ( due to shipping ? ) too expensive for my budget .  I decided to fabricate my own trunkfloor.

slowly getting somewhere....
plan is to get it painted by the end of august/sept.  might be quicker when 'all' my friends are coming over... :faint:     One thing I like about doing this alone;  I get to drink all the beer when it`s in the paintshop  :drunk: :drunk: :drunk:
