 :scared:

If one of those things was lost in my house I would evacuate the kids and fumigate the house!!!!!  Oh yeah, I guess I take the wife out too.  :dunno:  I'm definately not a spider guy!  I like to look at them and think they are facinating and all but I can hardly kill a tiny one!

Great story!!!!  Have a nice Christmas!!!  Get your brother a dog next time.  There a little hardler to lose in the house!  :roflsmiley:

I have heard the story where the guy buys a cactus in AZ and brings it home to Michigan and then the trantula nest hatched and all hell broke loose!  Scary thought . . .

That sounds like a similar story to what I had back when I was growing up.  I had four lizards (three from Oregon and one from a pet store) and somehow I managed to have an escapee...Needless to say, I never found him, but fortunately the house never smelled of a dead lizard. :misbehaving:

Glad your brother found that spider, Alan.  I hate spiders, so I could not imagine what I would do if that happened.

I held a Trantula when I was in my teens , no problem it was very docile , they are far from the worst spider to deal with , the can bite but it is not fatal & if you drop them from a couple of feet they go splat , the tiny by comparison Black widow is much worse , harder to see kill & the bite is far worse , I ran into a few BWs inside a brake drum fixing brakes in AZ years ago

Fumigate?!  Burn the house down!  I'm sure the insurance agent would understand.  By far the best story I've heard this Christmas day.

Gross thought but being from New England I get into fried clams and the bigger the bellies on the clam the better but then I began to think of the bellies on the Tarantulas and started to feel like...  :puke:

Great story Al.

I've had a couple of tarantulas. They are fascinating creatures and make great pets (no noise, no smell, need fed once a week, clean up after themselves, great "WOW" factor) as long as you get a species that is docile, slow, and can be handled easily.

My last one was a bird-eater, that had a leg-span of over 10 inches (only one quarter inch long when I bought him), but he couldn't be handled because he was from a very agressive species and blindingly fast.

Your birds would have been okay unless the spider was one of the bird-eating variety (Expensive and somewhat rare).

BTW, anyone thinking of a tarantula should get a "Starter" species that is easy to handle and take care of. Never buy one of the agressive species until you have had some experience.

Yuck!! That's the only thing in life I'm afraid of, spiders. :eek4: Snakes, crocs, lions, scorpions, don't freak me out but spiders!? :-X Not sure what it is, I know they're more scared than me but still, ugly bastards. I'd rather jump a cliff, run into a car, take on 6 fully grown men than sleep in a room with a tarantula on the loose, or worse, an aggressive specimen.

I couldn't believe he caught it less than 2 ft from where my feet are under the computer desk. I am so glad it is gone now. It wont happen again. I had bought him a sunburst 2 years ago and it died. It was very aggressive, it never made it into my house either. I was going to buy him an external armor skeleton taranchual, but the guy said it was aggressive too.
When we went over to his house for Christmas dinner, afterwards, he got it out and let it creep on him....We went home after that and didnt want to hang around. He might like them but I don't and never will let another one even close to my home.
