Based on what? That goofy looking grille and the silly fender vents? I think you are thinking of the 69 Roadrunner based on sales numbers.

OK I'm only teasing. Barracudas are awsome. Best though is only an opinion. I thing Challengers have more character. I think the 71 cuda popularity is a bandwagon thing but what people want is what counts.

Nice car! You could get a Hemi Six cylinder head for it. They had them down under.. 71 Hemi'Cuda 

would be an interesting combo.

 Australian Hemi-6 inline 6 engine. 265" engine, be the only one on your block with one or as a replacement in your Aussie Valiant. I have a few available, with or without auto trans, with or without manifolds, etc.

Also have new water pumps, header, aftermarket (Romac) balancer, gasket sets, 4 bbl intake, etc

I'm in So.Cal. and engines are for local pickup.

which gave you a race prepared and blueprinted 265 HEMI six cylinder engine. The E49 "six-pack" engine came with a baffled sump,  tuned length headers, special shot-peened crankshaft, conrods, pistons, rings, cam, valve springs, a twin plate clutch and triple 45mm dual throat Weber carburetors. Chrysler quoted this engine as producing 302 HP which,  in a 1372 KG (3000 pound) car,  made for rapid acceleration.

It comes down to taste really. 71 Cuda's weren't popular then, but they sure are now. 70 Challengers have always seemed to be sought after.

As far as the bandwagon thing that couldn't be further from the truth for me. Ever since I discovered Cudas I have always thought the 71 was the most awesome looking car of all time. It sucks that my favorite car also became the most sought after and harder and harder to obtain. How I ever had one and let it go is beyond me. I lost my brains.

 Very cool to see something "different" every now, and again.
I also like the idea that some have here about keeping it original, but it's yours, so do as you wish brother 

 There is just something about it though.
It seems to have a lot of character.
How I sense that from a few pics, I don't know, but it just does IMO 

 Anyway, take many pics once you get her home, and get going on the fix up.
You definitely have one heLL of a starting point to say the least

Congrats on the car! By any chance was this located in Northern CA? How'd you find out about it?

Did the owner know what  he was selling? Do tell the buying experience!

  Yes it was from Northern Cal.   The original owner still lives in LA and gave it to his grandson in the early 90's.   The grandson lives in FT Bragg (on the coast)  needed money and my friend heard of this car plus a 72 parts car for next to nothing.  My friend knew that I really wanted a 71 so he bought it then kept the parts car and I bought the 71 from him.   I believe the title still has the original owners name though.   I am going to try and get it going and then drive it to LA to take some pics with the owner.   Who knows when that will happen...........he's 85 so times ticking!  I am getting the car this week so I will post more pics.  I've decided to keep it stock except to upgrade the wheels.  I'm very excited!!
