Rebuild clutch fan?
« on: December 28, 2007 - 01:37:13 AM »
Is there a place that rebuilds the earlier original clutch fans? The one that is flat in front (70) or the one with the spring only? Both?

Try this:
http://www.gate.net/~foliva/clutch.htm

Fred is a top notch guy, and did an amazing job on the fan clutch for my 64 Corvette.

Don't be in a hurry though.  I sent Fred my clutch fan in September and he gave me the impression I won't see it back until June. However I have since heard others say he has had their clutch fans for over a year. :eek4:

Good to know first.

Also, what is the correct one for a 71 Hemi. the flat faced one or the one with a spring?

The right one is p/n 3462112 for a 71 and a 70 is a 2806070. I spoke to Fred today and he told me there are some small variations between the two. But probably most of us would never notice.

I picked up a 71 recently. But its a leaker. So off to Fred it goes and not to be seen for a year.

It's been 7 months gone by and he sent me the billing notice that came in the mail today. I should hopefully get it back next week. I'll take a pic of it. I know it's gonna be nice.

It finally showed up today.   :faint:
It's been now 10 months ago since I sent it to him. But it was worth it. He only does this on the side during the week ends and he's back logged. He said that it got delayed 2 months when he billed me because the plater first acidentally plated it silver. So back it went and delayed it for another 2 months. This is a 71 BB clutch which are pretty hard to find. 70 units ending in 020 are a little easier to find.

I got my invoice in September too, and am still waiting for mine to arrive.
I was getting worried it got lost in the mail or something so called a few weeks back and Fred's wife told me the same thing, plating issues.
Since yours showed up today, hopefully mine will be showing up soon!

That price sounds reasonable, does he actually rebuild / replace the fluid in the clutch, or is it a cosmetic rebuild?

I believe he rebuilds them, and if so his price is a bargain (my invoice for my T/A's unit was for $199+$12 shipping).  I just wish mine would show up, it's been over 14 months since I sent it in, and 2 months since I mailed him the payment.
I am not aware of anyone else who can rebuild these.  I heard there is someone out east, NJ or someplace, who does a cosmetic restoration of the these only and it costs more than twice what Fred charges for a complete rebuild and restoration!

Yes rebuilt. He told me...

New wax fluid installed
New seal
Re anodized
re stamped
Then press fitted back together again.
