thanks thats exactly what i was looking for, still trying to figure out do i call it a ralleye car or not, it seems like it was ordered with all the parts except the grill was silver not black and it didn't have the fender vents.

where is this on-line decoder?

The code for the Rallye Package is A57 and would be listed on the fender tag. Your VIN is for a 340 car - but without the Rally package. Definitely in the minority of 340 Challengers produced in 1973

:iagree:  Like what onefornow said, it would need the A57 option package for '73 and '74 Challengers to be a Rallye car.  '72s still kept with the "JS" designation in the VIN, "JH" being a base Challenger.  '73 and '74 Challengers were all "JH" cars and the Rallye package was an option, not a separate model.

It is cool that you car is a 340 non-Rallye car, don't see many often.  You car may have had a flat hood from the factory as it came with the fender mount turn signals, which I'm not sure if you could get with the Rallye hood, I could be wrong.  For '73 if you got the 340, I believe it came with dual exhaust with chrome tips.  If it was a base '72 Challenger ordered with a 340, I believe you would get the dual exhaust, chrome tips, and "performance hood with scoops" according to literature I've seen.

By "special order", maybe the previous owner meant like it was ordered with these options at the dealership?  :dunno:

Nice car you have!
1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

it could be, i never asked for clarification.

it had the ralleye hood when i got it and this fellow wasn't one to change much. he told me the rear end had a special order gear package too. but i dont see anything here that tells me that, lost build sheet  :banghead:

Where did you get that information?  The info I have from Chrysler says it is a hood insulation pad.  The other site says it is Hood insulation pad.  just wondered where you got your info?

Where I got my information from was not a book.  I got it from the chrysler code sheets and from the online decoder and they both agree.
