the best qb of all time would have to be joe montana.  the greatest football player of all time would have to be brett favre.  if favre hadnt been blessed with the arm he would still be a star in the nfl.  we would either know him as a hard hitting middle linebacker or a pancake blocking fullback or a tight end or he would have gained 50 pounds and been a center or something.  all those other guys on the list if not for being blessed with the arm < cept for maybe young and elway > would have grown up to be insurance salesmen

Great football / coaching tradition. However do a little more history and see what part of the country they receivied their "basic training". For what ever the reason (generaly speaking) the better QB's came out of the mid east, whereas the better running backs came out of the south, as far as their homeland backgrounds. And of course there are always great players from anywhere across the country.

1970 Charger 500
1971 Dart Swinger
1972 R/R 440+6 (wanabe)

i see joe namath got 2 votes????? joe namath shouldnt even be on the list.  now i dont deny joe was a media darling and sort of helped usher in the nfl as we know it today however theres a few things to consider when putting him amongst the greats.  namaths career completion percentage is 50.1 percent.  in 7 out of his 12 seasons he failed to complete half his passes.  only twice in 12 years did namath throw more touchdown passes than interceptions.  he finished his career with 173tds and a whopping 220 interceptions.  the fact of the matter is if a person was trying to find a player in recent memory that would match up favorably with joe namath RYAN LEAF comes to mind.

Joe Namath deserves to be on the list for more than his stats.... He was a colorful player....and alot better than thousands of quartebacks that have come along....

I don't disagree with you at all, but unlike most of the others on the list he was never on a great team. Due to his physical issues all that he could do was pass from the pocket & in that respect he was better than just about any.
