Fan shroud fit
« on: December 30, 2007 - 11:05:43 AM »
Recently put the engine back in the car, and when I added the radiator and fan shroud the fan blades were about an inch off to the passenger side so I can not mount the shroud.  The shroud is snug up to the radiator.  The fan (clutch type) fits in the shroud when both are seperated from the car.  The only change I made to the front of the engine was to add an after market water pump, but I can not see that being the problem, other than depth.

Any suggestions.

Appreciate it.

Don't want to sound stupid , but maybe you have the shroud upside down???

I had tried the upside down trick.  It was not that.   :)

Not all of the parts came with the car originally.  The fan did, but I changed out the the water pump to an aluminium one, changed radiators and added the shroud.

I will add a picture later.

E body fan shrouds are for 18 18.5 fans and the shroud is specific for that reason. If the fan is bigger or the shroud is not specific for the e body 22" or 26"  it needs to be fabbed

Pretty easy to make some brackets out of 3/4 inch by 1/4 inch aluminum to move the shroud slightly. Or could you shift the radiator over an inch?

Is there a difference between small and BB shrouds.  The one I have for the car is 2998326.  When I look that up on lightening jar (http://lightningjar.com/decoders/partnumbers/index.php) it comes up as a small block 26".

The fan itself fits within the hole in the shroud, it is just slightly offset to the passenger side.

Is this my problem?  If so, does anyone have a correct number for a BB.

Appreciate the help.

That should be it. I was wondering about 2 areas for the offset. 1st being what yr block and are the mounts installed correct on the engine. 2nd being hows the trans mount? Not broken and off to the side. This would shift the engine over some. The newer 440's had the spool mounts and a somewhat different engine mounting tab that can cause some install problems. but 326 is rt
