Took both the Challenger and Cuda for a cruise today.
« on: December 30, 2007 - 08:01:27 PM »
I decided today that my 71 Challenger RT and 70 Cuda needed to be taken out and drove before it gets colder and further into winter. It got up to 49 degrees and was nice and sunny. I took the Challenger out first and bought some new gas and put 30 miles on it. The Cuda was a after thought as it had not set as long as the Challenger but I decided to take it for a cruise also. I went and put some fresh gas in it and took my 6 year old grandson with me as he had never rode in the Cuda before and was very excited. I got home with the Cuda right at sunset and took a few pictures before it and the Challenger got put back in the garage. It was a fun day driving both mopar's and makes me want it to be summer that much more so I can go to the cruise nights and car shows.

Cool :clapping:
Is their much difference between the two.  Can you tell which car is which by driving them, what are their characteristics. :cooldancing:

Let me tell you they are not day and night but the Challenger RT 340 is a automatic which is easier to drive but not near as much fun. The Cuda has a overdrive in it and likes speed. The Challenger has been driven to the Mopar nationals every year since 1993. It is a great car out on the road with firm feel power steering and handles like a dream with a great ride and air conditioning when it's hot. The Cuda 340 4-speed seems to steer a little fast and will change lanes almost to fast for my taste and it is just regular power steering that has been upgraded to firm feel. The ride of the Cuda is a bit more bouncy even though they both have the same exact leaf springs from espo. I like driving them both but for the long haul I'll take the Challenger over the Cuda anyday.

Very interesting.............. It is amazing how two very similar cars can act so differently.  The longer wheel base would make the Challenger feel nicer as you have stated.  Thanks for the reply. :2thumbs:

You are a lucky guy today. Boy, you must be confused as to which car to drive first. I was going out today myself for a ride in the Cuda but I took my headers off this afternoon and boxed them up to send out to Jet-Hot to get them re-coated. They are getting crummie looking on the bottom since new back in '83. It's cheaper to have them done then buying a new pair...

I prefer the Cuda any day over the challenger.  I have alot of both and I still prefer the Cuda any day.
Got a pretty good start on my M46 optioned Barracuda restoration but now it is on hold till I can gather more funds.  Still need a few parts for it.  SIU Graduate 75 AAS Automotive Tech, 94 BS Advanced Tech Studies, 1997 MSED Workforce Education and Development

I'll keep that in mind and sometimes I let my wife drive the Challenger RT to car shows and cruise nights when we take both cars. Now that the Cuda is done she wants to take over driving the Challenger as she says I can only drive one at a time. After having the Challenger for 19 years and restoring most of it myself it is tough for me just to let her drive it. I do but if somthing happened to it I would have nobody to blame but myself for letting her drive it. She drives it slower than I do so I probibly have nothing to worry about.
