Yea or Na! Part 2
« on: December 31, 2007 - 03:55:10 PM »
Well I stripped off all the paint and resanded down the valve covers and semi polished them..... I think they came out great....

Like better than the orange paint I had on before??? They have a brushed look to them... hard to tell in pic....

That 16" Aircleaner for my dominator is huge looking

Cant wait to put on the ceramic 2" TTI's

The yellow tubing is gonna go as well...

Yea or Na!!!

Also what aluminum polish do you recommend... I just used some stuff I had around ???

I vote keep them unpainted!!!  I was a little concerned when you said they leak because I just bought some for my engine build. I've polished some aluminum with a cotton buffing wheel and compound I got at a hardware store. It has 4 different grades depending on what your polishing. One thing someone stated was to be careful about them getting hot,I think they have to be hot to actually polish.Being a thin material on your covers you might want to sand them with  ultra fine sandpaper Nice looking engine

The only problem with aluminum is you will always be polishing it. I found chrome valve covers to be of much less maintenance.

I've found it easy to keep polished with a polish made by the Wax Shop for aluminum. It works great for Weld wheels too.But it is polishing. They stay nice for quite a while. My new covers are made by Procomp Motorsport and have about a 1/4 inch thick bottom rail. Whats the story on ypur present headers?

my rails on the valve covers were 3/8 billett.... becareful on yours

i like the race look of the brushed aluminum as to chrome....  :2cents:

They look a lot better without the paint.
