Looking for all Oct. 14th 1969 built Dodge Challengers
« on: January 01, 2008 - 12:55:28 AM »
My buddy and I have VIN sequential 440+6 Hemi Orange Automatic Challenger R/T's so if you have any others built at Hamtramack that day we'd like to hear about your car and or see pictures.  Unfortunately I don't have a build sheet for mine (no rear seat when I bought it) but maybe one of you does.

Mine was sold new to California and his went to Utah and we found them both in Iowa and at one point they were less than 2 miles away from each other.

very, very kool....you realize how rare it is to find sequential twins

...I used to own a Lime 4spd T/A that had a VIN sequential twin just about 10 miles from me.....cars were identical except the bumper guards of all things, and both were non restored original cars...mine is long gone (sold) and the twin is still 10 miles away

His looks just like yours except no Vinyl top (which mine has).  I joke with him since his was built first in that I say they practiced on his to build mine :-).

I assume both you are talking about were green too and that might help confirm they did build things in batches which I heard was true on Hemi cars.  I think it was Carlisle 2004 there where at least 6 sequential Hemi e-bodies under one long tent.  I have a picture but it's not very good.

Thanks for the note.

...I once owned this car...a highly optioned 6BBL CUDA....vin# was 105.....I bought the car thinking it was MEGA RARE and the next day I got a MOPAR magazine that featured a dead ringer.....long story short, when I advertised the car for sale in Hemmings a few months later I got calls from quite a few owners of identical CUDAS.....vins ran from 103 to 129....there might have been a couple dozen of these built in a row....never knew for sure.....from what I gathered at the time, they were built for the Rapid Transit road show....shipped to dealers nationwide so when the road show arrived, the dealer had a fully loaded eye popping car in the showroom....maybe just another story, who knows....but I did find a lot of them identical, down to the small block radiators and single track rear ends.....that car was probably the single worst MOPAR I ever owned....a real mechanical a$$hole.... :roflsmiley:

Mine was Nov 20th. The build date on the fender tag is Nov.20th but the door sticker says Dec. 1969. I was told this happened alot. The fender tag date was the schedule production date but if something held the car up like a motor  or some option that was out of stock that day then the door sticker is when the car was finished.

OK, you got me with the how are you telling when it was built question.  My scheduled production date was October 14th (fender tag) but my door sticker does say 11/1969 with the last 3 of the VIN 098.  So, if your car is ballpark in the VIN range, that's probably as close as I can get.

You can't. The date is called the Scheduled Production Date, it is that day they HOPED to build the car when the order was first entered into the system. For 1970 cars at Hamtramck, there appears to be a six week window, the cars were usually built within the three weeks before or the three weeks after the SPD.

Take a close look at your dates codes, lots of original cars have a part or three dated a few days to a week after the SPD.

Also, most folks mistakenly assume that the cars were built sequentially by the VIN number, this is not the case.

What this actually does is widen the window of what it means to have date-coded parts on your car.

Daytona, even if that 71 you had was a POS, I want it

Alaskan_TA, find my build sheet please  :dunno:
