New wheels for my 340 T/A engine
« on: January 01, 2008 - 05:59:26 AM »
Over the holidays I had some scrap stainless steel and too much time. I was tired of walking around the engine and it was on a little dolly; it never rolled very well either. My only out of pocket expense were the 600# casters from Tractor Supply. I still need to polish the stainless steel so it shines.

You can push this around with one finger. The mounts can be changed as I made plates so the stands bolt on. I can change them to accommodate the K-Frame later on or just the engine without transmission. I’m also drawing up plans to mount the radiator, gauges, gas tank and battery. I want to break in the engine on it. The unit is TIG welded with grade 5 stainless fasteners and Nylok nuts.

I’ll keep you posted as I make more changes. Right now I have to make the wife happy and take down all the Christmas decorations!

ohiocuda, very nice piece you made..
I wish I had a welder in the garage I'd make a neat custom one like your's, but I bought a Harbor Freight motorcycle dolly and did a little modification to it and is adjustable for small & big block engines with or w/o deep oil pans...
I may add a piece to connect a transmission. I can't go wrong for under $25.00.....

Very nice, I love it.  Cant wait to see it polished.  :2thumbs:

You guys sure would hate to be in our shop.  Stuff everywhere.   :lol2:  I guess thats what happens when you need to be a plumber, welder, carpenter, car/truck restorer, electrician, etc, in one little shop.

Cool set up OC.
I'd like to make one with the engine on the K member.
