Engine Color
« on: January 05, 2008 - 08:59:29 PM »
What color were the 318 engines in 1973? Mine is rebuilt and painted baby blue. Just wanted to know if that is the original color.
Thanks.

I am going to be pulling my motor when I repaint the engine compartment and was thinking I would repaint it the original color. I remember the original color was a turquise or blue. Were there different shades or different colors of blue thru the different years. Or is Chrysler blue the same for all blue motors.  Mine is a 71 340.

They called it torquois(spelling). It was the same color in all years.

The blue used in later years is a different color.

The build date on my cuda is 4/21. It has been over 20 years ago when I first pulled the motor and I painted it a red. There is a tiny spot of blue on the harmonic balancer bolt left but I can't tell the exact blue it should be. Any one have any pictures of the later blue color?

My brother and I have got two '72 340 'Cudas. We got the correct color blue from the Padock catalog. They give you correct paint for year and engine size. We've got great pictures on our web site of the restos the cars are going through. Check 'em out, here's the linkhttp://www.twocudas.com/Two_Cudas/The_Motors.html

Your local Dodge dealer has all the correct engine color paints in spray cans. Street Hemi Orange, Race Hemi Orange, Red, Gold, Turquoise, and Blue. I think they also have repackaged and renamed the popular street hemi as Restoration Hemi Orange and Performance Wedge Orange, but they are the same as the original street hemi orange.
