    How much HP is a 8 3/4 good for ???

    It's not so much how much power will it handle, as much as it is HOW you apply it.  The heavier the car, slicks, or manual tranny sidestepping the clutch.  That combo will kill it pretty quick.  If you have a medium weight car with an auto and just a little wheelspin, it will be almost indestructable.  An auto applies the power relatively slow compared to a manual.  Bottom line, the less "shock" you give the rearend, the longer it will last...    :2cents:    :cooldancing:

    well you guys know what i have 650+hp ... 727 ... thinking of throwing a 200 shot at it ??? really ow affetiv i bracing ??? im thinking of going dana 60..

    mine has broken several times usually the pinion was the problem anything from twisted splines to totally snapping the pinion off.  But i know several guys running alot more hp than i did that have never had issues.  All i can tell you is NEVER buy ZOOM gears there junk.

    I would recommend Moser, Richmond Gear, or Strange Engineering for rear gear stuff...    :2thumbs:

    My race car with 500 hp (not much) and slicks on a sticky staring line tore those gears up.  Rips them right off of the ring or pinion.  My car was only 2300 lbs. Put a DANA in it and ran for 8 more years till I sold it.
     In my opinion, you need a DANA. Stroker, you are right on the verge of blowing up that puny 8-3/4.    They will only hold up till you get some serious traction, them BOOOOM!

    With that much power, I would consider a Dana.  I have an 8 3/4 in the Dart I use to race and it handled a 440 (about 450hp) with an auto and using the footbrake only.  I would not risk another 200 shot without a larger rear.

    The brace will only help if you're trying to twist the center section out from between the axle tubes. The ring gear will break befroe that happens on an 8-3/4.  It isn't needed in a Dana at all. The most I added to my DANA was steel caps. I ran a tranny brake and held it to 4000 Rpm while the lights came down. I never hurt it at all.  I was running 16.5-33" slicks too.
