Is it just me or is it hard to change the oil.
« on: January 06, 2008 - 11:03:03 PM »
Holy crap, my dads 67 camaro took like 30 seconds to get the oil filter off.

This barracuda is taking forever. Threre is absolutely no room to get around in here. We finally got the oil filter wrench on there but it still didn't come off.

Is there a special way to do this or do I just suck?

I think maybe the threads are messed up, I don't know?

Its an a-body cuda by the way not an e-body.

This car obviously does not want to be running  :screwy:

Changing the oil on first generation Camaros is easy. :grinyes:  Does your car have headers on it?  There is an oil filter adapter that is made for small block chryslers.  It angles the oil filter towards the back of the block.  My cuda has one but my D300 does not.  Everytime I change the oil in my 'Cuda it is easy, but on my truck it isn't.  I have plently of space, but the oil filter almost welds itself to the block.  I have to use huge channel lock plyers on it to get it off.  Maybe the adapter could put the oil filter in a more accessable place on your car if it doesn't already have one.   ???

I don't think it has an oil filter adapter.

I think maybe the oil filter is stuck.

Me and my dad both tried to get it off at the same time.
Him with the wrench and me with the pliers.

This is definately going to suck changing the oil.

Have been reading ways to get a stuck oil filter off since.

Try spearing the oil filter with a long screw driver so you have 2 handles to turn with.  Hope you understand what I mean.  The handle of the screw driver on one end and the blade of the screw driver on the other end that you pierced.

Heat always seems to persuade things to become unstuck.  Try heating the base of the oil filter with a propane torch and then go at it with a few  :swear: cuss words.

Perhaps it's cross-threaded as I've never had any problems getting the oil filter off either of my 318s and my 340's filter seems easy enough to change while in the car (same position on LA small block engines).

I despise chaning oil...lol. I do it once a year in my daily driver car ('97 Neon DOHC w/107K on it), and maybe twice on my plow/work truck. I make the wife pay the dealership...lol. :eek4:
