Reputation Points..
« on: January 08, 2008 - 07:47:57 PM »
Being a member on several forums, some of them have the ability for you to give other members Rep. points when they give good advice, information, etc.  There are no prizes or anything, it just shows appreciation to other members for the help they have given to fellow member.  Points are shown in their signature area.    Any way that could be an addition to this forum??

I think it's a crap system. Anyone at any time can take those points down, for no reason at all. I trust we're all friends here and a system like that would be honored but there are some guys here who would just be plonkers with a system like that. I think we're good as we are. :2cents:

You are correct in that points can be removed too for being rude or other things.  However, my intent was to be able to reward the good guys............and since  I am in the USA.......what is a plonker?

LOL, my bad plonker = dlck or an insulting word. Yup, it I know it's to thank them but I think we don't need any green lights or a points system to do it. I know it's for the good work people do but that won't stop people abusing it and taking peoples reps away for no reason at all. We all know who's who and what they're like with or with "points". Only newbs won't know but they learn soon enough when they initiate themselves. If it ain't broke don't fix it is all I'm saying and I can see a rep/points system like this causing trouble in the future.

It would be simpler to just thank the person that helped you.

Much less cumbersome than a point system and more personal.

Most helpful people are helpful to others because they enjoy it. If it helps you, say thanks because it is the polite thing to do.  If it becomes a point race, you may not get the right answer, you would be more likely to get more wrong answers by people looking to gain points.

I have been nominated for President twice that I know of on Moparts. That kind of stuff just freaks me out. I just do what I enjoy doing, I am not interested in being part of a popularity contest. Too creepy, not my kind of thing.

Just tell your cute sister / aunt / cousin of marriageable age that you know this really nice guy that wants to get married and have a kid or two. THAT would be OK and not pointless at all.

I think it would become a 'point race' for some members and they wouldn't even know that they were caught up in it.  I like it the way it is now.  Receiving a thank you is priceless and you feel good because you passed on some wisdom to another person.  Yep, thats my 2¢.

A better way is to have a forum to list good vendors and members that you have dealt with for parts or cars.Could be added to the e-bay/craigs list area.
