'71 Barracuda WIW
« on: January 09, 2008 - 06:49:19 PM »
I am thinking about selling my '71 Barracuda.  I know what I would like to get for it, just want other peoples opinions.  It was originally a 318 auto on the column.  Now has a strong running 440.  New TCI 727 transmission. New 4.10 rear gears.  The body is in decent shape, it does need a patch on the left front fender & has some bubbling under the vinyl top.  It will need paint.  The floors, trunk & frame rails are all good & solid.  It has a 3 speaker dash that has a couple of cracks around the middle speaker.  There is a small hole in the headliner & also one in the drivers seat.  Other than that the interior is good.  The car came with A/C & road lamps, but those are both gone, although the controls are still there.  these are the only pics I have.

BILL!!!!  I never thought you would sell it, but contact me!  I'd be interested in knowing what you are looking to get for it.  The onyl way I'd sell mine if for a 71....and sounds like opportunity may be knocking!  :2thumbs:

man, how sad.  you are one of the first guys i talked to on this site way back when.  i think at the time, you had a challenger for sale or something.  i do remember you are from the c'ville area.  i travel through there on my way to our amherst county place.

are you planning to replace the car or go without?

Dang Bill  :pullinghair:

I think I might know what you paid for this car, or maybe it was one of my dreams?

It's a 71 Barracuda. For me, the 4:10 rear is a negative, but maybe not to the next guy. I know the market is down and all that crap, but I wouldn't let this guy go for less than 25K, unless you are desperate.

Just a thought: "DON'T SELL IT!!!!"  Seriously, if you really would want to even think about it, I'd say it could probably go for $32,000-ish.  If I were you and didn't need to sell it due to financial hardships, I wouldn't even consider selling it unless you had another E-body in line to fill the void. :2thumbs:

Thinking of coming back to the more stylish Challenger fold?  I can understand that. Nice car. Hope you're just checking for value and not selling because you have to.

isn't this the same car that you had all the trouble with the body shop?  I think I have a ball park of what you want out of it. I might be interested in it as well

Sounds like a good nonmatching driver - I'd say $35K.

Would it be worth 35K as a 318 column shift needing restoring? Man these 71's are pricey, guess i'll never own one.   :walkaway:  Hate to see if it was a big block car.

You must be thinking of somebody else.  I never had my car in a body shop.  But if you are interested, PM me.

Here are a couple of videos of the car.

Waaay too pricey. IMHO should break down about like this for 1971:

Needing complete resto
Basic Barracuda/Gran Coupe with unuseable drivetrain and minimal rust $12K, vert $20K
'Cuda same as above $18K, vert $30K
Desireably optioned cars would add up to 20%

Basic Barracuda/Gran Coupe matching numbers and minimal rust $15K, vert $25K
'Cuda same as above $25K, vert $45K
Desireably optioned cars add 25%

Good Driver
These are real subjective because buyers may have different intentions.  For those that are happy with the car as it is:

Basic Barracuda/Gran Coupe with nonmatching numbers $28K
Basic Barracuda/Gran Coupe cloned to 'Cuda $35K  ;) (Yeah -  he needs gills/billboard)
'Cuda with nonmatching numbers $45K
Desireably optioned cars would add 10%

Basic Barracuda/Gran Coupe matching numbers $30K
'Cuda same as above $55K
Desireably optioned cars add 20%

Excellent restoration to original
Basic Barracuda/Gran Coupe matching numbers $35K
'Cuda matching numbers $65K
Desireable options add 20%

Original fender tags and build sheets could boost the 'Cuda numbers and the matching number Barracuda and Gran Coupes.  Verts seem to be all over the place once they get restored.  Obviously the 440-6 and Hemi cars would also get a big premium.  The option percentages above are also very subjective.  I know ... :blah:.  In short it's worth what someone is willing to pay.

I thought that may have been who you were thinking about.  What ever happened to Ed?  I remember him getting his car out of the shop & haven't heard from him since.
