I'm just taking a wild stab at this but I would think it helps keep the front end from lifting up off the ground.  Kind of like keeping the wind from getting up under the car.   Maybe?  :dunno:

Model car:

1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

Just in case you want to build your own, AMT currently has a new "old" kit out in hobby stores and Ebay.  About $20 on Ebay, about $28 or so in Hobby stores, figuring S+H it's all about the same.

I say "old" because they use the molds from the old Soapy Sales Challenger Funny car (See in the above pics I posted.) which goes for some $$$ on Ebay if you can find one.  Comes with 2 sheets of decals, but they are the type that you have to cut them close to the design, not precut.  I'm going to make a funny car version of my '72.   :naughty:  You can get the letters for the side at hobby stores to make your own name, etc..

The race track is where it all started for me and cars...mom & dad packed us kids up and headed to the track every weekend to watch my uncle race. I was pretty young but I knew then I loved cars...the faster & louder the better. My favorite thing about all the funny cars are the names they gave them. It wasn't so commercialized then it was simple...and most times it was the driver who was also the mechanic and you could go run around in the pits and no one cared   :woo:

Now a days you don't see a dealership sponsoring the races...advertising the races...promoting their cars like they use to...big typo though lol

:roflsmiley: Good catch, I actually just saw that car at the World of Wheels this past weekend, but I think it was blue?  Maybe a different car?  I dunno...  :dunno:  I like Monzas too!
