WOW they did a really nice job on my factory am-8 track radio,even replaced the 8 track selector knob that are impossible to find.I took mine off before i sent it so now i have an extra,didnt know they would give me a new one of those too:)

  I need to send in my original thumbwheel am/fm. Do you have the address or e-mail site for them. And if you dont mind about how much was it to restore yours. That unit looks good.

You can sell your extra knob for a few $$$ to help offset the cost of restoration.

Funny how first thing we'd do to our muscle cars in the 70's was ditch the factory AM radio and install a decent aftermarket one. Mine came without a radio because the kids I bought it from insisted that they keep their aftermarket stereo, having junked the original. A few years later I bought a factory AM radio from a junkyard just to fill the hole. I don't know or care if it even works, I doubt I'll be able to hear it over the engine noise if it did.

I wonder if anyone has tried to replace the guts with that of a modern radio. It would be pretty tough to get the original controls to work with the computerized modern interfaces.

You can actually have your original radio retrofitted with all the modern electronics,from Ipod to CD and XM radio form several sites on the net.I opted to keep mine original since it had the 8 track player.I can buy boxes of old 8 tracks on ebay for a couple bucks and still buy an 8 track home stereo to record my own 8 tracks if i wanted to,may still do that.Also my options are kind of limited to the size of the original 8 track to fill the hole in my GC and make it look right.I wonder what  people put in the odd shaped hole where their 8 track used to be?

Replacing the lower dash trim with standard trim eliminates the 8-track opening...

Not only that, but if you sell the 8-track trim, you can make $$$ on the switch.

Check out this web site:  http://www.turnswitch.com/ they can switch out the guts of even an AM radio to make it an am/fm with 180watts. The front stays the same just the guts are changed.  I e-mailed them today and they responded already and it looks really cool.  you can ad a 12 disk cd changer for less than 300.  They also have a really good price on there speakers.  Seems really resonable to me.  Gordon

Wow, that is really nice. I love modern stereo stuff so much I just cannot bring myself to take the factory stereo stuff too seriously. I guess if I ever get a car that is rare enough to warrant a full boogy resto I might think different.
